*Starting fights* I can't stand Skyline Chili. When I was visiting Cinci, I was told it was better than chili [and food] at Detroit Coneys.

Incorrect.

St. Louis is a BBQ town. I think Super Smokers is the best BBQ, but 17th Street BBQ has won the most awards. A lot of people swear by Pappy's, though.

Best frozen custard: Ted Drewe's

Best Vietnamese: Pho Grand

Best Thai food: Sen

Best food truck: Chop Shop (sushi)

Best sushi: Miso on Meramec

Best roadhouse: Fast Eddie's

I miss Giordano's. When I got married, we lived around the corner from one. It's awesome pizza. I love the antipasto salad, too.

-best place to eat after you've had a few too many: WEINER CIRCLE!!!

You really also should try Ed Debevic's just for the experience

Bloomington (aka IU)
-best pizza hands down is Mother Bears
-best Thai food I've ever had at Siam House
-also amazing: the fries at Farm, ice cream at Jiffy Treet or Chocolate Moose
I also love the Scholar's Inn Bakehouse in Bloomington for breakfast. The breakfast burrito is enough food to fill me up and get me through pref day. (when there is no time for lunch)

Oh, and HotBox Pizza (or whatever the name is in Bloomington) breadsticks are a must after preference ends. (the former recruitment advisor started the tradition, but I feel I must carry it on...)

How could I forget? In Greater Pittsburgh (which includes WVA & OH), nobody makes better ice cream than Bruster's Ice Cream. My favorite is the Chocolate Raspberry Truffle, with Cherry Vanilla a close second. They also have Froyo, sugar-free, cakes, shakes - the whole 9 yards.

They also give your puppy a free doggie sundae!

Is Bruster's based in Pittsburgh? We have one outlet in our area (greater Philly) that I know of, but I've never been there. Passed by it just yesterday, in fact.

There are a bunch in North Carolina, too. I've tried a few times, but it really didn't do that much for me. (Sorry, honeychile.)

ETA: As I think about it, I think there could be a shadow floating through a thread like this: How much are our opinions on what is the "best" whatever in our hometowns based on an objective assessment, and how much is based on subjective associations? I know I've told people that such-and-such is the best whatever around, only to have them try and say "eh, it's okay, but this other (inferior one) is better." What's the difference (aside from everyone having different tastes)? They don't have the memories associated with it that I do, or the same associations, including growing up with the idea that "everyone around here agrees" that this whatever-it-is is the best whatever-it-is.

Good memories make almost anything taste better.

Oh, get over yourself. That's hardly "intense," and I can be a lot more long winded than that, thank you very much.

I loathe catfish. But my cheese grits would make up for the lack of catfish.

Sorry, but unless you want shellfish you're out of luck. I don't do fish.

Prove it. Bring me some. Otherwise I refuse to believe it.

Well, we'll just have to agree to disagree on that.

And you can give me your shrimp and grits.

The "intense" and "long winded" post?

Got to get this thread back on track somehow.

Pizza X breadsticks...those are the best. The Little 5 special..$5 for a large drink, 8 breadsticks and two sauces (nacho cheese and pizza are the best).
