Our National Symbol is the Dolphin...

but we still have quite a bit of Angels floating around from when were a local. But all of the orignal members of our local are graduatining in May. I hope they keep the tradition of Angels AND dolphins.

My chapter of Phi Sigma Pi has the local mascot of Spyro the Dragon, mostly due to my initiate class, who came up with it. He's purple and gold (well, yellow), like the frat's colors, so that's why we like him. Now we have this huge blow-up Spyro that comes to events and wears a PSP sweatshirt and stuff...but we haven't degenerated to giving little Spyros as gifts or anything.

My Chapter is National so we already have the ladybug and Raggedy Ann, but when we were founded the girls thought we needed something to call our own, till we became National, so they decided on the frog!

There is a whole story and activity behind it that is shared with our New Members each year. I would defiantly recommend having a local mascot, it’s great to be part of a larger organization, but sometimes it’s nice to bring it back and have something that just belongs to your Chapter. It’s also really cool, because it’s a link to the past, which is specific to our Chapter so it seems a little closer to home.

Plus it has given us a ton more decorating options, our Lounge is always filled with Ladybugs and Frogs (our chapter never really went in for Raggedy Ann).

We don't, but I think it's a really cool idea! I can't speak for the other sororities on campus, though. For some reason, I was thinking KD or ZTA had one, but I could be wrong.

Even though KLP is a local sorority, my chapter the Delta chapter has a local symbol, the purple heart, that only we use. Our Epsilon chapter adopted it too but they died out and I don't think any other chapters will adopt it. One of our sisters in the Alpha pledge class passed away from stomach cancer during pledging so our chapter adopted the purple heart as a symbol in her honor.

the kappa kappa gammas on my campus use a red chili pepper as their local symbol. the guy who was the mastermind behind tabasco sauce (mcilhenny) had a daughter who was a kappa at lsu. once she became a new member, the family sent lots of tabasco to the girls and i guess it just took off from there...the kappas now call themselves the "red hot mamas" because of this

edited to add: i learned this during recruitment and thought it was a pretty nice anecdote to share PNMs.

We don't have a national symbol, though I know most chapters choose to use the penguin. Our chapter however uses a polar bear (since we're the UMaine Black Bears... I think it's a play off that) and our national flower, the white rose.

our national symbols are the columns and our mascot is the giraffe. as far as local symbols the closest thing we have is the green M&M. We had the "what is it about the green ones" rush tee and have been really into them since. We always have M&M' candys at recruitment and sometimes give M&M favors. And even before we had the shirts new member usually dress like green M&M's at the campus halloween party!

My Alpha Phi Omega chapter was Mu Mu. We had Mu Mu (which we pronounced "moo moo") the Cow (a cute little stuffed animal) as our local mascot.
