This is the Northeast, where legacies don't predominate, you don't go to a studio to get a photo taken, sororities don't memorize the PNM's faces before rush, most sororities do not require recs, and nobody knows from Lilly.

I am indeed a betting woman, but there's no way of determining if anyone who cut NO sororities was also cut from every sorority, so there would be no way for me to prove you were wrong so you could deliver not $10, but my payoff of preference: tickets to the opening game of the World Series, which will be held in Philadelphia (now there's something we actually could bet on)

Seriously, though: The problem is that everyone (dream girls and gremlins alike) drops the same "bottom tier" sororities after the first rounds - exactly the groups who might have provided them a happy home in Happy Valley. So there probably are women who "maximize their chances" in the most formal sense of the phrase, but they still screw up their own chances early on by dropping the groups most likely to want them.
ROTFLOL.

You know, we've heard that about you.

I'm thinking that some of Alabama's loveliest turned quite a few heads up there yesterday. And girl, ain't none of 'em was wearin' uggs.

"We're here for your menfolks". LOL!

To the subject at hand, I hope that the young women who want to be part of the experience all find a landing place. Good Luck and please let us know how rush turns out!

Which will actually be about Penn State recruitment rather than grilled stickies, Creamery Ice Cream (does it taste as good in the new building???) or any other Centre County Delicacies.

Oh, and what's the deal with this (from the article at the beginning of this thread): "Jenkins also stressed the importance of following the code of conduct, which includes the rule where no rushing sisters are allowed in the fraternity houses from 8 p.m. until midnight." What's a rushing sister? Do they mean current sorority members (most likely) or PNMs? What's the purpose of this rule?
I could so use some ice cream right now. My throat hurts, haha. But first rounds are over, now just second rounds on Monday and Tuesday and then pref on Wednesday and it's over! We're almost there!

To answer your question, it probably means that sorority women are not allowed to go out to fraternity houses to decrease the chances that they will see PNMs there and engage in dirty recruiting. I'd imagine that's why, anyway.

PM me! I'd love to set something up.

And now the real reason I bumped this thread-- the women I've met so far have been so great! We really do have some stand out women going through recruitment so far and I am so happy to be a part of it all. Three more days until bid day and I can't wait. Prayers and good thoughts would be much appreciated right now. I'll let you know numbers as soon as I know them.

Three more days until bid day!?!?!?! Hard to believe. I always felt like rush lasted several weeks (although it was probably more like 10 days).

Hope it's a nice day with no rain in Happy Valley (yeah, that'll happen) when bids are given out - hope to see lots of good pics.

Thinking about you, PSUSue, and hoping you guys have a great recruitment.

All of this talk about the Creamery makes me even more annoyed with myself that I didn't make it there last week while visiting the Phi Mu chapter at Penn State! I grew up an hour outside of State College so I would be there decently often throughout high school. The Creamery is fantastic and now I just want to go back and get some ice cream. I did, however, manage to get a fresh grilled sticky a la mode from The Diner, so it wasn't a wasted trip.

Good luck to everyone for bid day!!

The Diner sounds much like Eat N Park. Is it an offshoot?

NO!!! NO!! NO!!! It's the famous Ye Olde College Diner, with the famous Penn State Ye Olde College Diner Stickey Buns. It's not Eat N Park, it's not Denney's, it's not Sonic, it's not the goddamn Red Rabbit. It's the Penn State Diner.

Now, back to discussing PENN STATE'S SORORITY RECRUITMENT.

There are more drunk people at The Diner on any night of the week than there are in all the Eat & Parks combined in a month.

(mmmm, fries and gravy)

I was a little sad that the breath wasn't of the dragon variety, but I giggled nonetheless.

I can honestly say I've never witnessed this.
I don't know if I'm just in a different part of town when it happens but a lot of people I know don't even know what The Diner is. Which is a shame b/c grilled stickies are like a Penn State tradition

Kind of sounds like King's Family Restaurant (KR ducks to avoid LT's flying shoe)

No, no, no. King's is where the goth kids go to hang out and nurse the same cup of coffee for a zillion hours.

My sister just emailed me and said she's going to Bid Day today! Good luck to all the PNMs and chapters! Hope the rain holds off over there.
