The movie covered almost exactly 2/3 of the book. That leaves only 1/3 of the book for the next movie.

I felt a little differently. What happens in some of the "slower" parts of the book (including some of the camping scenes) is what gives the book depth and richness, rather than letting it be just a rush from one plot point to the next.

There were two times in the movie that I really wanted them to slow down, and one was at Grimmauld Place, with Kreacher's story and his relationship with Harry. Aside from how it sets up something that happens later in the story, that's some of the best writing in the book. For this same reason, I did not like the inclusion of Dobby in this part of the story.

The other was in the cemetery. I missed the Dumbledore grave and the discussion of the inscriptions on the gravestones (though the inscription could be seen on the Potter's gravestone). Those go directly to what the book and the series as a whole are about.

Still, I enjoyed it -- much more than the movie version of HBP.

Absolutely.

I think I can safely say that Deathly Hallows Part 1 has been my favorite HP movie so far. If splitting the movie into two parts is what it takes to do the books justice, I wish they had split all of them.

The Tale of the Three Brothers was, indeed, brilliantly done. I was thrilled with that. And, I'm so glad it was Hermione who narrated it. While it was appropriate because she was the one to whom the book was bequeathed, it was also appropriate because the seventh book seemed to concentrate on her growth more than any of the previous books.

I'll write more about HP7, but I'm short on time. But, I was very satisfied with it. Looking forward to July!

My hubby and I went to see the movie on Saturday night. We really enjoyed it. Very dark. I was squeezing his hand half the time. Having read the book, I was really jumpy as I anticipated the creepy parts.

Our only complaint...the moment of implied nudity. I know it is small and insignificant. But really? Did we need that? It felt like an obligatory nod to the fact that we are moving into the young adult range now. Seemed like a silly Hollywood moment since the rest of the scene was already powerfully expressing what Ron was experiencing as he was mentally pummeled by the horcrux.

That's all...overall, a great date night! My guy even bought me Jr. Mints

Loved the movie! So, glad that split it into two. I'm so glad my theater has assigned seats. I rolled in at 11:30 and took my seat. Beautigul. I thought the
"nude" scene was a bit much, but the movie was PG-13. I don't know why anyone familiar with the story would take a small child. Forget the bare shoulders. It's far too dark for children.

Oh...definitely. I didn't mean that the nude thing suddenly made the movie inappropriate! Actually, I wasn't thinking about appropriate vs. inappropriate at all. I just thought it seemed strange and out of place. The rating doesn't really matter to me.

On that note though, when I saw HP there as a little child about 4 year old in the SECOND ROW!! When my son was four, we were just intoducing Bambi.

I fully agree about the nude kissing scene-- it was just way over the top.

I think they did a pretty good job of editing. I would've liked to see more about Kreacher's relationship to Harry, but seeing as they completely omitted his role in Order of the Phoenix, there wouldn't have been time to give all the background now. The one thing I think definitely needed more time/explanation was the Bathilda Bagshot scene. They made her seem like just a random evil witch.

Overall I'm very satisfied with this one and think it was a great move to split up the book. I can't wait for the next one! It will cover a much shorter fraction of the book, but it'll be the action fraction.

Yeah the whole theater got uncomfortable when that scene popped up. You could just feel it. I just felt like it was completely unnecessary, and I have no problem with nudity when it has a purpose of some sort...but that had none at all. It was just awkward.

I was bored and actually happy when it ended where it did. This is the first time in all the HP movies this has happened for me. I went to an early afternoon show, but maybe I was just tired?

Yeah, if I hadn't read the book I'd be completely thrown by the Bagshot scene. But then again, I don't think I'd like any of the movies all that much if I hadn't read the books, because they don't generally do a good job of making all of the connections between events.

She was an Inferus -- a corpse that has been animated and controlled through the Dark Arts. An Inferus cannot speak; Nagini, who was basically hiding in the corpse, spoke to Harry using Parseltongue.

It just seems over the top. The most important part of that scene is what the locket's Hermione and Harry say to Ron, and the kiss is just the kicker. It just felt weird to me...and awkward. Of course, it doesn't help I'm a Harry Potter fanatic, and the thought of Hermione and Harry together seems as weird to me as it does to the characters.

Bathilda Bagshot (in the book) has been dead for a while before the two of them get to the house. She is a corpse being controlled by Nagini, which is why "she" won't talk in front of Hermione. Nagini as a snake can only speak Parsletongue, which Harry understands but sometimes doesn't recognize (as in, he speaks or hears in Parsletongue but doesn't realize that it isn't English immediately as it is an innate skill). If I hadn't read the books I'd get that it was an attack orchestrated by Voldemort, but I think I'd be confused as to why it happened like it did.
