^^^Really? I thought maybe they name girls "Michael" in England like it's not a big deal.....good to know!

I think I might break out my old homecoming tiara while I watch so I can feel like a princess, too.

Here's what wikipedia says

Victoria's grandfather and father died in 1820, within a week of each other, and the Duke of York died in 1827. On the death of her uncle George IV in 1830, she became heiress presumptive to her next surviving uncle, William IV. The Regency Act 1830 made special provision for Victoria's mother, the Duchess of Kent, to act as regent in case William died while Victoria was still a minor.[5] King William distrusted the Duchess's capacity to be regent, and in 1836 declared in her presence that he wanted to live until Victoria's 18th birthday, so that a regency could be avoided.[6]

[Palm on forehead]

Of course she was an heiress, not an heir. Oops.

I'm not sure why I took so long to read this thread, but I'm overwhelmed by the amount of royal knowledge I just stuffed into my pea sized head. What a wonderful history lesson on the monarchy!

This whole thing is giving me the creeps big time. I hope it has a better ending than Diana and Charles. I don't think it is possible to be prepared for the life that Kate is about to be thrust into no matter how old she is or how much living she has done. I find myself feeling sorry for her and concerned for her.

Anyone hear about the Royal Guard who insulted Kate on Facebook? Honestly, "nothing's sacred anymore." I forget that the members of the Royal Guard are humans like anyone else. Underneath that uniform was an 18yo kid with not quite enough common sense.

Yeah it is kind of weird to think of them as "people" much less as an 18 year old. I know that's kind of on purpose too, but geez. Also it seems like he's in more trouble for saying "pakis" than the insults to Kate.

Royal Weddings Past

Ok so you all have gone way past my interest in the wedding, but here's some past photographs of royal weddings.

Also in interesting news, one of my younger sister's sorority sisters from college is on the Royally Mad BBC America show.

Apologies for the size:

I am taking the day off (first vacation day since my honeymoon in October) and heading to my mom's for a party. I am bringing my box of tea from the Empress Hotel in Victoria, BC, supposedly commissioned by the Queen. And scones.

I'm caving mainly out of curiousity but what the hell. Not sure how much of the ceremony I'll actually watch before nodding off but I definitely want to see the dress & her getting out of the car & entering the church. From there, I'll play it by ear b/c I do have to work (BOO!). Getting excited!

Watched a bio of Elizabeth II & they showed footage of her and Prince Phillip when they were young. Did anyone else look at him and see William in him??
