Question: if the PNMs are wearing black to Preference, what are the actives wearing*?
*Yes, dresses, not cat suits, even I know that; but what color?.

Probably black as well. I've only seen one chapter, in my years, wear something other than black and that was KKG who wore white.

Several groups wear white at our school. We wear red and some other groups have worn red in the past too. The majority still wear black though.

I have only seen Pi Phi wear white but who knows. Maybe if most of the members wore another color, they could still carry off the theme.

We always wore black when I was there, and so did the houses nearest ours, but things might have changed, so I can't speak to what they wear now.
One of my girls just got back from ranking and said the three chapters she preffed all wore black.

The chapter that I work with wears red, as does my college chapter. This is becoming more common for Alpha Gamma Delta.
BTW...I'm a UGA newbie. I don't know the traditions.

Black at Pref
My daughter is an active along Milledge and yes the sisters are required to wear black during Pref parties. They have some fairly strict dress requirements and daughter went looking for dresses in July. I know she is flat EXHAUSTED and classes start tomorrow.
I wish everyone well. Tell your PNMs that there will be a period of adjustment. I some cases it takes a few months to feel part of the sisterhood. I know my daughter has just moved into the house and Recruitment has really helped them bond.
There is a place almost for everyone who wants Greek life in Athens. I understand there are some discussions about bringing to campus another sorority. I think that is a great idea. More opportunities for more young women.
Hang in there moms. It is almost over!

I can't speak for all Kappa Alpha Theta chapters, but as actives,we wore black, and the PNMs did not. I recall PiPhi actives (the other chapter I preferenced) wearing beautiful white, with wreaths of flowers in their hair. They looked angelic, for sure. It was such a contrast to me at the time - Theta in black, PiPhi in white. I believe my own PNM preference dress was (gasp) red, or teal - it was a very strong color.
I think that seeing the photos/looking at the clothing has been one of the most fun parts of these recruitment threads.

I heard the acceptance level is about 3.9, so these are all great young woman.
My daughter tells me each house is looking for those special young ladies. It is really hard with the beastly hot weather to shine. The sisters want to make a good impression as well. They KNOW what it is like on the sidewalk. They do have their favorites, but I heard repeatedly about girls who just bloomed during recruitment. They talked, they were funny, they really clicked with their hostess. As in any friendship, if it clicks, it works.
Your daughters will get through this. It is an ongoing process of adaptation and adjustment. They will find their spots and they will shine. Tell them their sisters are waiting for them and they are just as nervous and excited.

MomUGA, Thank you so much for your posts, they have been very helpful and insightful, reminding us moms of PNMs that the sisters are working hard and want to be their best, too. I especially appreciate your last line

Recruitment SOOO different
I will share that I attended UGA many, many moons ago. I also pledged a sorority and have remained active upon my return to Georgia. My daughter pledged the same house. She went through last fall and I told her to keep a completely open mind. I suspect she looked at my sorority with a bit of a jaundice eye. HOWEVER, during recruitment, it just clicked and I am thrilled for her.
For those of you who have never participated in Greek life, I can not explain to you how joyous it is. You make life-long friendships. My little sister is my youngest son's godmother. One of my sorority sisters has a son my youngest son's age. They have been friends for years and they happily shared my son's wedding last fall.
Membership in Greek life on a campus like UGA gives you leadership opportunities, access to tutors and heads up on tests and difficult professors. It also gives you a safe place to learn problem solving, mentoring skills, and organization!
I would not trade my four years at UGA in a sorority for anything! I wish only the same for all of your daughters.

Ha, Maria...I wore red, too...which I picked out before I knew I was preffing AOII. It went over well with the AOIIs who were trying to figure out if I was going to pick AOII or break my poor sister's heart and join another group.
