Oh how I wish we could have a house...

How I long for my colony to have a house once we're chartered... unfortunately it won't happen without some law changes. The laws of the City of University Heights, OH refuses to let more than 4 renters live in a single home regardless of its size.
So we could theoretically get a house 6-8 miles off campus, but...that's a long walk to class.

JCU borders with several other suburbs (very short walking distance). Have you considered Cleveland Heights, Beachwood, Shaker?

We're looking into it...

At the moment we're just focused on inititiation and then being chartered, but we've chatted about finding a place we can call home but it's not our first priority right now.
At this point, the campus has talked about giving us an entire dorm floor to call our own next academic year (at least for the on-campus residents) which would be suitable for our needs, at least for that year.

I have looked into the ordinances for Shaker and Cleveland Hts. They are both just as strict, stating that no residences may house more than three unrelated persons. I don't suppose being a Brother in Beta would be enough to convince the city of a relationship? Haha...

And Beachwood didn't seem to have an ordinance against it that I could find... So perhaps there would be the easiest!

It's almost 3 1/2 yrs later and we will be losing this house in may, see homepage www.sjsubetathetapi.org
frankly, this house has destroyed our chapter in so many ways, I would advise against large houses....

We physically don't have enough people to support it. We recently got enough people to move in but it was too late, the house was sold.

Additionally, this purchase of the house had caused the chapter to initiate by "numbers" which conclusively almost destroyed our chapter. We are trying to dig our way out of the hole of these decisions which were made in 2004 and 2005, (the two years that this chapter has seen the largest pledge classes in which all were initiated despite not making requirements). Now, we are having to kick people out/other people resigning. But consequencly, we will be much stronger in the future. Rush is very tough for us. Tough time for our chapter. Any Betas out there in the bay area of california, we could use all the alumni help/support we can get.

That's an old picture, we now have bushes growing around that eyesore of a pole. Story goes that SAEs use to run their cars through our yard, so we put up a pole and put a nice dent in the first one that hopped the curb. Haha

Sorry to crash... but I wanted to let everyone know that I've just finished a website with pictures of various Beta Theta Pi houses. You can see it at http://betathetapihouses.blogspot.com.

I'm working on pictures for houses of all the different IFC fraternities- you can see all of the ones I have completed at the main page, http://fraternityhousesindex.blogspot.com. I've also done all the panhellenic sororities (http://sororityhousesindex.blogspot.com), if you want to take a look at those. Enjoy
