I am a Phi Mu at this school, and just like I told the OP, it didn't hurt my feelings. In fact, I've heard similar things about recruitment from girls who are now my sisters. Of course I appreciate the girls who came to help out, but they aren't students here and aren't familiar with the atmosphere--I probably would have been even worse in that situation if it were me! It isn't the fault of those girls or of the chapter. Recolonizations can be strange experiences for everyone, and we've had a lot of support from our Panhellenic sisters. I hope she finishes this up too, because I'm way too interested not to have a resolution!

I'm glad you said this. I had no idea which house she didn't like until the Phi Mus came after her! Oopsies!

OK, there wasn't a damn thing wrong with this story. Yes you could figure out which school she was at if you really tried - but she didn't say anything that I thought was over the top offensive, or offensive at all. She seemed to be trying to give all the chapters a chance, even those she hadn't heard good things about, and that's nice.
I thought her comments about the colonizing group were very spot on - maybe it should be a learning experience for that sorority that it might not be in their best interest to begin colony recruitment at formal rush with all the other groups. We'll never be able to improve if all we hear is the good of everything.

i have to chime in that i am so tired of gcers jumping on pnms when they are honest about their own opinion. as others have said, how can our chapters improve if all they hear is "i just didn't click with this group" or "i just wasn't feeling it"?
if they don't like the zeta chapter on their campus, that's okay. there will be other girls that will like them.
don't take it personally.if you don't like what it being posted, go read another thread.
and to the phi mu colonist, thank you for your understanding!

I am sorry, but really???? These people have a little too much time on their hands/too thin skinned/immature if they are plotting ways to get back at someone for not loving a chapter of their glo when they went through rush as an 18 or 19 year old.
This is great, honest feedback that perhaps this Phi Mu chapter can learn from and use in the future.

No one was plotting anything against this girl and in fact I sent her a PM to apologize if she felt like it was coming off this way. Things on this board have been taken and used against people in the past and merely me and the others were just trying to warn her of that fact. No one was trying to jump down her throat or scare her off and if you feel that way, then I'm sorry it came off that way.

It's not like she said nasty rude things or horribly shallow remarks like "I don't want to be here because of their chipped toenail polish" or "I don't like their fake pearls". And it's not like she's telling the story in real time, so what would be "used against her"?
It's understandable that it was awkward at the colonizing chapter. Group conversations with members of the sorority from another school, it's not going to click for most people, and frankly, it doesn't have to since they will not be chapter sisters. A colonizing class has to be interested in colonizing and the work it entails.

I'd also like to hear the end of the story -- preferably publicly.
Everyone is entitled to her opinion. In order to be respectful of all our members, we should phrase our opinions diplomatically, and the OP did so. The idea that these threads will poison the innocent mind of some future PNM at this school is just ridiculous; it's impossible to go through rush without being exposed to these reputations.

Like others, I'd also like to know how the story ends.
I've never understood why people try to figure out what school is being referenced. I realize that sometimes curiosity just gets the best of you, but sometimes it seems like people go out of their way to cause someone grief.
To the OP: If you don't publicly share your story's end, will you please PM it to me?

About 6 (?) years ago, a girl went through Rush in the South, posted her recruitment story, and received a bid. When it came time for Pref, it was clear that she favored XYZ over ABC. I can't recall the exact things she said about ABC (the posts have since been edited/deleted), so I couldn't tell you if they were unflattering or not. I do remember, however, that she did say "I can see myself more as an XYZ and I didn't not get that from ABC." At this point I can't remember if she used code names or the actual sorority names in her rush thread. It was a long time ago.
Well, she got a bid from ABC and sometime during her NM period, her new ABC sisters found out who she was on GC and made her NM period a very unpleasant one. She ended up dropping out and was not initiated. I don't think she ever joined an NPC. If she did, she clearly didn't provide us with an update. Who can blame her?
So yes, it can be risky posting a rush story, but if a PNM's honest without being disrespectful and people hold this honesty against her, then you wouldn't want them as your sisters anyway.

FWIW, and I don't mean to steal the OP's thunder in any way, she does have a happy ending, and that was evident yesterday when she posted in her new sorority's forum.

Anytime a colony participates in any way in formal recruitment I'm sure it makes things a bit strange for PNM's. I helped out with the Open House round with a colony this year and I'm sure those girls were looking around thinking "What the hell is up with all the old ladies?" (we had our alums present not current collegians)
And I appreciated her honesty.... not everyone is going to like each one of our chapters. As long as she wasn't being totally stupid about it, no one should be offended. And as OTW pointed out.... her recruitment is long over...
