I just realized that Miss DC didn't move on. I feel sad about that.

Not kidding!! Giving them all DOUGHNUTS??? Loved the 2 ladies in front who wanted to refuse them, but then took them when they saw he camera on them.
I want to root for Miss Texas, but twirlers just don't win talent on Miss America.
Miss Wyoming... stunning in that blue dress for talent and her piano playing was gorgeous. I think she wins.

LOL - as a former twirler, I was TOTALLY impressed by Miss Texas's performance! Here's what's on the Miss America.org blog about her: The first? Miss Texas performing a baton routine twirling to Donna Summers' "Last Dance. This is unbelieveable. No drops, using her entire body. Then she brings in two more batons. One of the most incredible talents I've seen in this competition.
I wonder if MaKayla Maroney was impressed?

Miss NY had sass though.
The two singers were just too nervous and sounded awful--I Dreamed A Dream does NOT have that much vibrato--it sounded like she was singing on a bumpy road!

No offense intended, HoneyChile I agree that she did twirl very, very well.
I love seeing the videos of the girls performing when they were children!
Are there more tappers this year than usual?

DH (a musician) just gave Miss South Carolina "very high praise" for her Bruce Hornsby technique - rather grudgingly, since he's not terribly pro-greek. Yet.

Talent Performances
I really hate the way they do it - why make them get ready to perform if they're not going to do so?
Miss Texas - baton (three!!)*
Miss Tennessee - vocals
Miss Illinois - dance
Miss Oklahoma - tap dance*
Miss Wyoming - piano*
Miss Maryland - vocals*
Miss New York - tap dance
Miss South Carolina - piano*
Miss Iowa - tap dance
Miss Washington - vocals
*Greeks (ratio now: half greek, half not)

I realize that most people don't understand what it takes to twirl. And yes, there are MANY more tappers than usual, IMHO.

I liked the twirler and the two piano players' performances best. Miss Iowa (third) was my favorite of the tap dancers.
