Round One- Philanthropy

This was written in real time, so...

Broadway- Hypo really liked the women she met in this group. They were all really sweet and their rotation bumping was very smooth. They made her feel like they wanted to get to know her.
Tom’s Diner- She really liked all of these women too, but it was the last party of the evening and she was getting tired and hungry.
The Highline- She knows a lot of women from this group but wasn’t paired directly with any of them. Several of them stopped to say hello though.
The Met- This group had the best tasting beverage, although all chapters served basically the same thing. Everyone she met here was really nice.

It was really hard to rank but one chapter felt less comfortable to her. She would really like to go back there again though.

She ranked:
1-Broadway
1-The Highline
1-The Met
2-Tom’s Diner

She can pick up invitations at 8:15 tomorrow morning. There are two completely different rounds of parties. One round begins at 9:00 am, the other starts later in the afternoon. She doesn’t know which group she will be in, but has to be up and ready at 8:15.

You're right, that was mean. I forgot to mention the AOII presentation! AOII was the fifth round.

She was really intrigued by the presentation and the idea of being a part of something new with a big focus on leadership skills She said it was a blonde southern lady who did the presentation, I think her words were "Someone who's like the head of the whole thing?" I'm thinking it was the International President?

Round Two- Chapter Development

Round Two- Chapter Development

Hypo picked up her invitations and sent me a text saying “Only The Highline, but I’m totally ok with that.”

I received a text after her party that said “I love them soooooooooooooooo much!!!!” She called a few minutes later and gushed and gushed about the women in this chapter. She was talking so fast and was so excited that I couldn’t even take notes on the conversation.

PNMs have to pick up their invitations between noon and 5 pm on Monday for Preference parties that start at 5:30pm. Hypo works from 10-1:00 and has class from 1:10 until 5:25 pm so she’s wearing her pref dress ALL day. She sent her MRC a text asking how she can find out whether she received an invitation and what time her party is if she did. She is hoping she can find out via text or something. Hopefully she’ll get a short break between class and that pref party to freshen up a bit!

Well our International President is blonde and went to school in Kentucky! No to go back to lurking on this thread for the evening

Preference

Preference:

By 4:00 pm, Hypo had emailed two members of Panhellenic and hadn’t heard anything back. Her class was starting in 10 minutes but she decided to make the trek across campus to see if she had an invitation.

Her party with The Highline was scheduled for 6:50 so she had time to get something to eat and primp a bit after wearing her Pref dress all day and trekking around all day in the cold. Mom’s final advice was “This party will be more serious and sentimental and some may cry. Enjoy!”

She sent me a text after signing her MRABA saying "signed my MRABA for The Highline". I asked if she liked pref and she said "yeah, lots. I'll tell you more when I'm allowed to talk about it." She takes her "Strict silence" very seriously.

Bid Day!

I sent her a text at 7:10 pm saying "I'm dying here!" and she sent a text back saying "Why?" Kids!!!!

She then said her group was meeting at 7:30 to get their bids from their MRC (whatever they call their recruitment counselors). I sat by my phone, texting with DoctorD who helped me keep my sanity tonight. (I promise to return the favor in a few years!).

At 7:43 the text came in "Got it ))))"

It is her friendships and connections with various women in The Highline that confirmed her decision to go through recruitment. She had met several of them in band and her new boss is a member of The Highline. There is a GCer who gave her a lot of personalized advice during her college search who is also a member of Highline. When Hypo found out that GCer was a member of The Highline, it confirmed her feelings that her constant connections to members of The Highline were a sign, even before recruitment began. I’m excited that Hypo may get to meet her someday.

The Highline

When I look at The Highline’s website, it strikes me…their tagline of Real.Strong.Women fits so well with the Beautiful, Strong, Bold Barnard tagline. And Hypo’s true passion for music is so well expressed by having not a purpose or a creed, but a symphony. When I read that symphony, I have to believe that she did not just become a new member of The Highline, she always was one:

To see beauty even in the common things of life,
To shed the light of love and friendship round me;
To keep my life in tune with the world
That I shall make no discords in the harmony of life,
To strike on the lyre of the universe
Only the notes of happiness, of joy, of peace;
To appreciate every little service rendered;
To see and appreciate all that is noble in another,
Be her badge what it may;
And to let my lyre send forth the chords of love, unselfishness, sincerity.
This is to be my symphony.

So, for those who haven’t figured it out yet, The Highline is

Alpha Chi Omega

We don’t share a sisterhood, but we do share two colors and a Panhellenic Creed!

I KNEW IT!

I know people in that chapter and the way they describe their sisterhood made me think from the start that was where Hypo would end up.

Congratulations to her!!!!!!!
