I heard somewhere (can't remember source) that his wife was an AXO and that there was an AXO pin on the flag that was placed on the moon

Hmmm...
I've heard this "pin on the flag on the moon" thing over and over again.
I'm wondering if Neil Armstrong had several wives, or his one wife belonged to eight or ten sororities?
In any event, I'm surprized Apollo XI ever got off the ground with that many sorority badges on board.

He has one individual gold medal and one men's team gold medal from the Atlana Games in 1996. At least, I think that's right.
But yes, he was arrested (or, he turned himself in, that is) for he and his roommate being in posession of marijuana, paraphanalia such as scales and baggies, and $30,000 in cash. They charged him for posession with intent to sell. Though, I don't know what the outcome of his trial was.
Knowing that he was in deep doo-doo, he resigned his place on the Sydney Olympic team before the National Archery Association could strip him of it.
That same year, one of the other US Archery Men's Team members was found to have cheated during the Olympic trials (after completely missing the target, he shot an extra arrow when no one was looking). The National Archery Association yanked *him* from the Olympic team. So, 2 of the 3 were ousted. For the first time in history, both of the olympic team alternates were sent to the games!
That wasn't archery's finest hour.
How do I know all of this? I am an archer myself and a member of the NAA.
Anyway, I didn't mention Justin's "boo-boo" in my post 'cause I didn't want anyone to think that I was saying something bad about Sigma Chi. Surely people make mistakes....and one organization isn't bad because of one member.

Just a reply to a Sigma Chi. David Letterman was a Sigma Chi, but i have heard that he got kicked out because of grades. I have heard this from some brothers of SIgma Chi. But when he did his Ball State homecoming special with Biff, SIgma Chi ended up on there. THere flag and lots of their brothers! But he is still a Sigma Chi just a little bit of trivia there for you .

My boyfriend and I had a discussion about this a few months ago and he told me that Dr. Suess's wife actually WASN'T a Sigma Kappa. That's what he was taught in his program since there has been so many rumors about it. Looks like this is another case like the pin on the moon.....will we ever know the truth? Probably not.

I think a lot of these "famous" people who are listed as famous greeks maybe added as kind of "honorary" members because they live up to the ideals of the Org. For instance Rosa Parks is listed as a Alpha Kappa Alpha I believe on one list I've seen, but I know she never attended college.. I believe they bestowed her member ship for showing that she posessed the qualities that their org. strives for... this may be the case for some of the other members listed on the famous lists...

Tim McGraw
Thanks for the post about Tim McGraw. I knew he was in a fraternity but I never knew which one. Does anyone know if Kenny Chesney was ever in a fraternity? He said in an interview about playing in houses, but he never mentioned that he was a member. Hmmm... Those are two men I would mix with anyday! Haha!

Until I get evidence (ie, I go to the moon, look at the flag), I'm going to disregard any and all sorority claims, including mine, to the "sorority pin on the moon" story.
Another famous AXO is National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice.
An AKA is Ruth Simmons, president of Brown University. I'm not sure if she's honorary, collegiate, or alum initiate.

To the best of my knowledge, Delta Tau Delta does not do honorary initiations or have honorary members.
We do, on very rare occassions, initiate an alumni, or someone who has given service to the Fraternity -- let's say a long time chapter advisor who was not an undergraduate member.

Famous Greeks
I heard that Pat Green is a Farm House alum from Texas Tech, and I am positive that Colby from Survivor II was a Phi Delt at Tech. Kate Capshaw (Steven Spielburg's wife) is an ADPi and so is Deanna Carter and Whinnie from 'The Wonder Years'.

Well, I can say with total confidence, that SAI can claim the following:
Sheryl Crow (from U Missouri)
Jessye Norman (VERY famous opera singer...Howard U)
Katie Harman, Deborah Bryant, and Debra Barnes (Miss Americas 2002, 1967, and 1968, respectively).
Dr. Loretta Long (Susan on Sesame Street....from Eastern Michigan U.??)
We also have many famous musicans that have been initiated as honorary members, but these are a few that have been initaiated as college members. What a talented group!

Sorry to revisit this post, but I just found out that Ben Savage ("Boy Meets World" and Fred's little brother) is a Sigma Chi at Stanford. I had thought that he joined the SAE's, since Fred is an SAE from Stanford, but he didn't...He is a Junior to be, I think...

i know this is a repeat, but i feel the need to say it.. i dont know about the rumor of letterman failing out to be true, but if it is, that is odd.. seeing as he donated SO much money to have a whole new building built there, he wanted the new stadium named after him, and he paid the morgtage on the sig chi house (you should see the thing, its like a friggin apartment complex!).. so whether he made it out or not, he sure does claim it.. and if anyone is interested, i do have some pictures of biff from homecoming...if anyone wants to see them, i can scan em..

Georgia O'Keeffe is a Kappa Delta and one of their most famous ones, at that!
She is from Beta chapter at Chatham Episcopal - the KD website describes her as a famed artist and recipient of the nation's highest civilian honor, the Medal of Freedom.

neat thing
I think this was on another thread, but...Steven Speilberg is a Theta Chi and puts stuff into his movies. The prevalling story is that he hated his chapter, or did not have the best time there as got made fun of for having the camera all the time. Who knows. But must love the fraternity in general as puts it in his movies. Whats neat is that when I was little kid pretending to be indianna jones, i never thought that the director who made those films would one day be my brother, and throw up little acknowledgements to me in the movies I loved. Or that I would thinking of being a director like him. That is so cool. To me, i guess you guys wouldn't care.
