I just read through this whole thread and it made me smile! My number 1 college choice was University of Michigan and I couldn't afford it as an out of state student. My dad's number 1 college choice for me was Barnard and I just didn't like it. My mom wanted me to go to UConn because it was close, but my dad didn't like it. I LOVED Vandy, but was scared about being sooooo far from home with no family nearby. I ended up at Rhodes in Memphis because my brother went there and both my parents were happy with the option. AND I could not have been happier going somewhere else.
Its funny how all this stuff plays out...it is just like recruitment and everyone does end up where they are meant to be!
Ironically enough...and much to my father's delight, making up for my failure to choose Barnard, my sister ended up at Columbia. (Of course, much to my chagrin BEFORE AOII recolonized its alpha chapter )
I'm glad your daughter is happy at Barnard...it is an AMAZING school and NYC has soooo much to offer

My girlie is sick which is making her want her mom a lot She called me at 6:15 this morning because she has a fever and is achy and can't sleep. I remember the first time I got sick when I was away from home and it made me really homesick. That's where she is right now

Awwww, sounds like AGDee needs a little loving too - missing her daughter and wishing she could be there to comfort her.

Awww - time for a care package! Now that they have the "if it fits it ships" priority mail box - it should be easy to send her some chicken soup and hugs.
(I recommend chicken and stars, her favorite candy, and cookies to share with the roomie, maybe a goofy pencil or a cool coffee/soup mug.....)
Even if she is better by the time she gets it - it will make her feel all warm and snuggy.

I went to the doctor before work this morning - I'm 23 was still on the phone homesick with my mom at 6am, haha.
I'm sure a care package would be appreciated!

^^^My church used to send care packages to college students and I LOVED it. It usually included a card signed by familiar faces, a gospel mix CD, and basic college staples (beef jerky, ramen, etc). I felt super loved when I got one. And my mom sent packages with stuff to share with my roomies. They loved her, too!

Ha! My mom lives 10 minutes away. I'm sick and was just over there yesterday for some snuggles! She gives me a care package every time I'm sick which means I have a million different cold medicines, several kinds of tea, and about 3 jars of honey.

Last week I sent my daughter some Halloween goodies and room decorations, and a copy of the out-of-the-vault Cinderella DVD, which she and some other girls on her hall sat right down to watch. The Cinderella DVD was a bit hit.

Awww - I love it!
When I was in college, my church matched up each of its college students with an adult who sent random notes/care packages anonymously. It was called the Barnabas program. It was wonderful! My floormates were always excited when I got a package, because it always had stuff to share (microwave popcorn, hot chocolate, coupons for free pizza, etc.).
Care packages are the bomb.

I remember the first time that I got sick freshman year. I was so homesick, all I wanted was a hug from my mom!

I was already planning a Halloween care package with candy corn, hot chocolate mix (the really good kind, like Hershey's or Ghiradelli's), homemade pumpkin seeds, and .. wasn't sure what else! I like the Halloween decorations idea though!

I got a wisdom tooth taken out after work on Wednesday and the first thing I wanted was my dad--who happens to be 650 miles away in Chicago!

Same for my youngest. How did they all get old enough to be taking the PSAT?
