I finished Spy Master and have started Use of Force, both by Brad Thor.

I needed something lighter, I highly reccommend "Funny in Farsi" a memoir by Firoozeh Dumas.

I’m well over an hour into Jon Meacham’s book about John Lewis: “His Truth Is Marching On”.
It’s TERRIFIC! I am a big non-fiction fan, even though I often find them a bit dry. But this is so interesting!

I’m learning things I never knew about the baked-in racism of some areas of the South and how Lewis, even as a young man, made up his mind to make a difference. I’m also finding out interesting details about many other events including “sit-ins” and smaller demonstrations. It’s clear to me, even partly in, why Lewis is well—known for “get in trouble, GOOD trouble” quote. It’s was just part of him very early in his life.

It is filled with quotes, excellent descriptions of locations and situations and is an easy and entertaining—yet very factual—read. It also includes several photos that illustrate his descriptions.

Our daughter lives in Nashville, and she took us last year to the Parnassus Bookstore that carries many Meacham books since he’s on the Vandy faculty and is a local resident.
Now I’ll be able to tell her to gift me with ANY of Meacham’s books..I’m already a fan!

I haven't been posting in this thread even though I've been reading a lot this year. I ended up reading a book over the weekend that contained a sorority recruitment as part of one character's story. The book is called So Much a Part of You by Polly Dugan. The book is made up of connected stories, so each story could be read on its own, but if you read them all, the characters, plotlines and themes intersect in a cool way to tell a larger story.

The story that is sorority-related is called "Blackball," which yes, the title is pretty much a spoiler, but it's worth reading, either as a stand-alone story, or, preferably, part of the whole book.

I'm about halfway through The New Girl, by Daniel Silva. It's another book of his Gabriel Allon series.

Silva explains that the concept is loosely based on the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

chi-o_cat, that's one of the genres I love - stories that connect to each other. Maeve Binchy had that perfected!

Finished The New Girl, and really enjoyed it.

Moved on to Alex Trebek's The Answer Is... Reflections on My Life

The Answer Is... was an easy but fun short read. DH read it first (as he finished his book before I did), and we both liked it. Each chapter has an Answer, then he expounds on that topic. Examples include topics such as Ken Jennings, Marriage, Will Ferrall. Because of the format, Alex jumps around, instead of a "I was born, I went to school, I got my first job" type of book. It is very recently written, which is obvious as he mentioned COVID.

There was one major exclusion, which has both mr. honeychile & I wondering why it was excluded, but I won't mention it at this point. Enjoy!

Now I have to decide on the next book - a happy dilemma!

I very much enjoyed The Answer Is.... I’ve always enjoyed Trebek and Jeopardy - an easy read, a bit of a bittersweet read, but enjoyable just the same.
I’ve just started I’ll Be Gone In The Dark. It will put me over the halfway point in my yearly reading goal - the pandemic really put a damper on my time and motivation for reading.

Finished the latest Joanne Fluke book of the Hannah Swenson series, Christmas Cupcake Murder.

Am now reading The Wonder Boy of Whistle Stop by Fannie Flagg. It has the same characters as Fried Green Tomatoes, and much like FGT, it's an easy read.

I don't know about anyone else, but I seem to be gravitating towards the more "gentle" books lately. I admit to COVID Fatigue!

Just finished Bella Figura by Kamin Mohammadi...
It's such a wonderful memoir of an woman who lacked a work-life balance. When her stressful job was eliminated, she moved to Florence, Italy with plans to stay only one year and write a book but ended up finding love of life and self.

Reading the one-and-only Thanksgiving Card we get, from a retired local politician who's sent them every year since he was first elected (back when Trump first experienced bone spurs).

Anyone here have a favorite Wintertime Holiday Book they plan to begin or re-read? What made you choose that book?
