My roommate found out the BC she was on is a diuretic. I wonder if mine is. I pee ALL the time, so maybe!

Stopped taking the pill about 2 weeks ago. I've been on it for a number of years. I seem to be shedding hair like crazy, much moreso than usual. Anyone else have this happen to them?

Hmmm.. it has been 3 years since I went off and I honestly can't remember. However, I have had 2 kids in that time and in both instances my hair really thickened up during pregnancy and then fell out like crazy after birth. (this is pretty normal with pregnancy i believe). Anyway...similar type hormone changes at work?

I've heard horror stories about cramping, bleeding and other side effects on Yasmin, so it may not be all that unusual. I'm on Seasonique, so I only get blank pills 4 times a year. After the first year, I stopped getting my period (and all associated symptoms) altogether. Maybe you could look into that?

Year late response, I know, but just throwing my experience out there for other future readers.
I went off the pill for a bit. The only thing that really happened was I was really nauseous for a bit. The nausea started about a month after going off of it and lasted on and off for a few weeks. It got pretty bad, although I never threw up or anything. Just a word of warning!
Also, I MAY have lost 2-3 pounds but that may have been coincidence.

I concur.
Or better yet, 3-year-old who is screaming bloody murder because his peas and chicken are touching on the plate.

Question for you all:
Does anyone have any birth control methods that they use that do not contain hormones, besides condoms? I took the pill until I was halfway through college and it gave me a pulmonary embolism. So after years on blood thinners, they told me I could never take the pill again, or anything with hormones similar to the pill (ovarian stimulation for help with infertility, medicine for menopause, etc). We're not planning on having kids (yet) and I freaking HATE condoms. So I was just wondering if there was anyone else out there with another idea.

^^ Diaphragms or IUDs (non-Mirena).
So thankful that my hubby had a vasectomy and I don't have to worry about that anymore...

I just stopped taking the pill about a week ago.
I was on Ortho TriCyclen Lo for a year, and it was great! (minus loss of sex drive...)
Then I switched to LoSeasonique... which sucked. I still got it every month (instead of every 3 months like I'm supposed to), and it would last anywhere from 15-32 days. It sucked. So I stopped! Plus, it was pointless to be on BC when I was never having sex anyway (which was my only reason to go on it) because, thanks to these pills, I never wanted to do it!

Well, that will keep you from getting pregnant . . . but that's a huge price to pay. The whole point of birth control is so that you can decrease your risk of pregnancy without forgoing sex (unless, of course, your choice of BC method is abstinence).

But not everyone who is on BC is using it for that reason (although it helps if it every comes to it).

That's one of the MANY reasons I would never use those every 3 months pills. It says right in the ad "you may have bleeding between periods, from light spotting to the same heaviness as a regular period." What's the point???

Well, it didn't just lower my sex drive, it was non-existent. So yeah, that was keeping me from getting pregnant because I wasn't having any sex anyway! (I know, my poor boyfriend)

Some people have it, some don't. Depo gave me spotting for about 3 weeks near the end of the 3 month shot, but nothing monthly. Thing is, the "period" during BC isn't a real period anyway, it's just withdrawal bleeding.
