Dude on Entertainment Tonight said "if this is all a publicity stunt, they are great actors."
They might just be great actors. We shall see.

Watching it felt like I was watching something that shouldn't have been televised. Does that make sense?
Like this would have been better off not being addressed in front of the cameras.

I watched the encore of the episode tonight & I totally agree with you. As a child of infidelity and divorce--it's hard enough to survive behind closed doors.

Can that do that with their contracts right now?
And Alexis talking to Jon at the birthday party telling him not to leave anymore totally made me cry. I'm such a sucker for this family, even though it seems to be falling apart.

I honestly don't remember what episode it was, but he mentioned that he always thought he'd never get married "and then he met Kate." He's also said it in magazine interviews as well.

At this point, you say screw the contracts and go ahead and sue us TLC, and try to save the family. It reminds me of Courtney Love reading Kurt Cobain's suicide note and when she got to the part where he said "I don't want to do this anymore" she yelled "THEN F*#@ING QUIT."

Isn't that true for many, many reality shows?

Interesting interview.....I think the whole thing about laws for kids on reality shows is a bit far fetched.....I don't think anything like that would ever get passed.
It is sad that their family both extended and closer to home are having problems with relationships.
One thing I have been thinking is how do the Duggars manage to keep their series to not cause tension? I think it may have something to do with the way they raise their kids and the influence of their faith on their everyday lives.
Maybe there should be a Jon and Kate/Duggar intervention! lol!

Well, the Duggars are much more stable than the Gosselins. For one, they've been married twice as long. They have older children, which makes them less "exotic" than a family of multiples are. Second, they don't seem to have gotten wrapped up in the financial benefits of the "lifestyle" as much as Jon and Kate did. Jim-Bob has had a job, and didn't get fired under weird circumstances like Jon did. Since they had pretty much one kid at a time, they didn't start getting a ton of publicity like the parents of multiples do. They just had a big traditional family--and honestly, it's not that much bigger than the family my grandparents had, which was pretty typical for their time and region.
I do agree that a lot of that stability is probably tied into their faith. Michelle's probably not going to get plastic surgery and get a trendy haircut. They already have a big house that they paid for themselves. They may get exposed to some things, but I can imagine them turning it into a good thing for them.
I also get the feeling that if things got rough, the Duggars would just say no.

Love this!
ETA - Actually, I don't think the law to protect kids on reality shows is too far fetched. It already occurs in regular television/movie production. It is not so far a leap to apply it to reality filming production. And, with this latest controversy, I'd say it is much more likely to become law than not. This whole Jon/Kate situation has really brought children's rights, or lack thereof, to the forefront.

I think the Duggars honestly respect each other too much. It seems like if one wanted out, the other would too. Also you don't see Mrs. Duggar constantly raggin on Mr. Duggar, or the other way around.
Bottom line is that Kate grew a big head, ugly hair, and lost respect for herself and her family. While the paparazzi may get worse if they were to quit the show, it has to end sometime.

The Orange County Register had a good article on Jon & Kate. Love his Who Cares attitude!
