Don't feel guilty. It is not your fault the system at IU is broken. Congratulations to your daughter, and I hope she has a BLAST tonight. Post pics if you get 'em.

Tears sprang to my eyes when I read this. That is just ghastly that only four of twelve girls got bids, horrible! And it sounds like that is the theme tonight. Your daughter's scenario was entirely possible in my daughter's room, but thank goodness they both got bids to Theta Phi Alpha. Maybe now your daughter can pull for her friend next year, if she still has the desire to join that sorority.

You do not have to have attended a group's preference party to be offered a snap bid.
However, you HAVE to have maximized your options.
For example, women who attend a full schedule of pref parties, but only list ONE chapter on their final card/MRABA, then do not receive a bid, are NOT eligible for snap bids.

Last year that was a requirement. Snap bids could only go to those that attended preference and maximized their options. Not sure of the rules this year.

I was in the same situation as your daughter. I walked out of the dorm with my sisters to see my best friend crying in the tv room. I felt guilty, but there is a reason the sorority picked your daughter and not her friend. She can't let guilt or loyalty keep her from this opportunity. She may even end up helping her friend to get a bid in the future.

Oh my gosh! Don't feel bad, It's great to hear some good news!!! A lot of the posting is negative so it is great to hear some good news!!! Tell her congrats from all of us. I am sure she will love it, I spoke with a mom from that sorority and she is super sweet, so I can only imagine that her daughter is the same. I just know your daughter will love it!!
So happy for you 2!

Are you sure? I know you have to maximize your options for QA. I don't think you have to for snaps. One of my students was offered a snap two years ago and she dropped out after an earlier round.

Yay! Congratulations to your daughter and her roommate! Please welcome them on my behalf to the wonderful sorority that took ahold of my own heart years ago and has yet to let go!

Not to devolve into the whole RFM thing, but unless IU has yet another squirrely rule, quota additions can go to girls who maximize their options, and QA is done and gone by now. But a chapter can issue a snap bid to any joe blow on the street if they want. NPC can't interfere or prevent a chapter from achieving quota or total.
But that being said, I don't know if any sororities are snapping right now or if they will need to tomorrow. With RFM getting more and more refined over time, and with this weird rush in particular, it is very possible that while some great gals went bidless one or some sororities could have missed quota. Simply because they weren't allowed to invite enough girls to preference.
