I've read the entire thread and haven't seen Northeastern mentioned anywhere. I know Northwestern is a school that certainly requires recommendations but Chicago and Boston are very different.

I've never heard Northeastern to require reqs. Helpful...maybe to jog the memory of a current member or if they pair the PNM with an active of similar interests, but not required.

Verbatim from FSU Panhellenic social media:
"Do we need to send in letters of recommendation?
A letter of recommendation is information about a Panhellenic potential new member (PNM) sent in by an alumna of a specific Panhellenic sorority to that sorority's headquarters and local Florida State chapter. these letters are in no way required and impacts the recruitment process minimally."
Check that capitalization and verb agreement.
But also: not entirely accurate since not all the chapters on the FSU campus require the letter writer to be an alumna of the organization.
And also: "minimally" is debatable.

You probably aren't going to get any takers on that one. Asking random names on a message board to write you a rec is a bad plan.
You say you don't know "many" people - well, ask the people you DO know, and then see if they have friends in other sororities who might be willing to help you. Do this SOON.

Which A?
Also you need to get in touch with sorority alumnae. They will know what to put in the recs. Try contacting your local alumnae panhellenic, but first ask everyone you know who might be an alumna. Or know one. Or have heard of one.

Um. Get your family and relatives to help you. Soon. Like, really, really, REALLY soon.

Keep in mind that only members of that organization can fill out a Rec form for you. If Aunt Suzy is unaffiliated, or she's an ABC, she can't fill out an XYZ rec form for you. Contact your local Panhell Alumnae office and see if some recs for you can be put together on a fast track.

Recs are best when they come from people who know you personally. An alumna in Maine can write a rec for someone going to Iowa with no problem. That's part of the point of the whole rec concept.

I apologize if this has been answered before. I am still searching this site for info, but there is just so much good stuff!

It's best to get recs from people in your area that know you personally. However, they aren't an absolute necessity at Iowa State. It's more just a nice introduction for the chapters, especially as you're coming from out-of-state.

Based on the information i've read here this is what i've gathered but im probably wrong
If i don't know anyone to give me recommendations i go and find alumna from each chapter at my school to write me one, but since i don't these people it will only be information only and be essentially useless anyway? Or do you sometimes actually meet the alumna writing you the recommendations? I've started emailing each chapter about recommendations but now im concerned that they won't be of much help since i don't personally know these people and they don't know me.
help???

First, you do NOT contact individual sorority chapters about recommendations!! EVER~! Where ever you got that information, don't trust them again.
Please read the sticky in sorority recruitment about how to find recs from people that know you. You DO HAVE sorority alumnae in your life. You just have to ask to find out who they are. And sorority alumnae know alumnae in other organizations. ASK.
If you must go to women who do not already know you personally, then YES, we will try to have coffee with you, lunch or at least chat by phone to get to know you as much as possible.
