Having someone who presents an award talking politics is one thing. Having the host is something altogether not acceptable. At least not when it's a network that the targets young, impressionable public. I would not be OK with it regardless of who the host was saying to support.
I totally agree, I mentioned that yesterday as well. This is an awards show, not a political commentary, and he kept it up throughout the show. I didn't know what his whole point in making fun of the Jonas Brothers & their promise rings. I'm glad Jordin Sparks made a comment about it while she was on stage.

I don't really care if it was British satire, it isn't appropriate for an awards show.

And again I say, now that Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers are part of MTV life, i've officially moved on. I'm too old to be watching those little tweeny boppers.

OMG Jesse Camp.

Yes, I remember this. He had an album ome out and he even debuted his first video on TRL with Carson.

I turned past MTV and to my amazement, TRL iis still on. I had ZERO CLUE who 90% of the people in the videos were (or the hosts), but the show is still on.

I remember when the most important part of my day was making sure I got out of Student Council early so I could get home and watch TRL because I wanted to see if NSYNC beat out the Backstreet Boys for the number 1 spot. LOL.

*dead* @ Jesse Camp. I swear, I thought he was high most of the time. The last host I liked was Riki Rachtman, and even he got old after a few years. I was surprised that Headbanger's Ball is now only ONE hour. Metal Mania plays more "metal" music than HB does now.. *smh* MTV 1981 to 1999.. lol... RIP.

I'm so happy for Britney. She looks better. I hope that she keeps this up.

I didn't get Russell cracking on the Jonas Brothers, but I do admit chuckling when he did mention the election.

I agree with the previous poster that the VMAs have been bad for a while.

I remember Jessie Camp! I remember thinking America was crazy for voting for him. I still see Dave on TV.

I remember Kennedy, Pauly Shore and Bill Bellemny; when Total Request and Live were two separate shows; Remote Control; when Real World was a show you actually looked forward in watching; seeing Tyrese on Jams; The Cut with Left Eye (RIP); Yo! MTV Raps; etc.

I miss the old MTV (and the old BET, but that's another thread).

If you have to mention it EVERYTIME you were on stage, it no longer is a joke. I thought it was funny the first time he said it, but he kept saying it over and over, even the audience stopped laughing.

I think that that can be attributed to the fact that his brand of humor didn't translate well at the VMAs. I'm not annoyed at her statement, I'm annoyed that she went on like she did.

Last year I was in a pet store in Century City and Jesse Camp was working there. It was rather strange. Apparently the fame thing didn't really work out for him.

JennRN: I think that's why his hand was there. Belts and/or regular fitting pants do the same thing. Or maybe he just wanted to make himself feel good while he was performing...

Is MTV still relevant these days? Or did it lose credibility when Kurt, Tabitha, Karyn, John and Gideon left? Is Gideon still there? Does anyome remember who those names are? lol Did I just date myself?

nah, you didnt date yourself. im pretty young and know those names. they shouldve kept Dave (i forget his last name) on-air and put Jesse Camp behind the scenes. Dave knew what the eff he was talking about, instead of sounding like an illiterate bum *cough JesseCamp cough*

no, screw the coughs. Jesse Camp was SUCH an effin bum. if HE can get a record deal, damned us all.

as for Choose or Lose, i think they've flipped their "seriousness" to thinkmtv, which is a little broader, yes?

ETA: and as for the bolded. nah, MTV is not nearly as relevant as it was, even as soon as 10 years ago. there are many networks that have popped up that do what they do (or used to do). they switch up their hosts so often that there isn't even any following.

I have to agree with KDAngel on the inappropriateness of the host's election comments. The guy isn't an American citizen, won't be voting, so why does he even care? I'd love to hear his reasons for supporting Obama. I would think it was wrong of an American celebrity to go to England (or any other country for that matter) and voice numerous opinions about voting for someone. I seriously doubt how our country is run is personally affecting that guy. I'm so sick of "celebrities" endorsing candidates. I don't claim to be politically savvy, but I know who I'm voting for, and I don't feel the need to shove it down everyone's throats every chance I get.

I'd love to see how many celebrities actually vote.

Overall, very disappointing VMAs.

Seriously.

As for the VMAs, Britney looked good. I didn't love Russell Brand but I'm sure the MTV execs limited what he could say. But I've seen a few articles calling him the worst host ever. I kind of feel bad for the guy.
