Actually, I can't remember who first said it, but I meant for the newbie to look back on the posts of the person who snarked them. If that person snarked other people, chances are, they're just snarky, and the newbie isn't special. It's in one of the newbie threads.

Ohhh... ok, that makes more sense. Maybe we could sticky the AlphaFrog GC Laws? It may help prevent some of the trainwrecks we've seen (mine included, lol).

Fiji is an island, Phi Gam is a fraternity.
I know the history behind the name Fiji but still don't like it, it sounds goofy.

ETA: And I wondered about the "PhiGam" thing too when I first saw the username, the FIJIs on my campus were militant about ONLY being called FIJI.

Yes, PhiGam is a southern thing.

And even if this topic was discussed before, I'm sure it was boring the first time around... Lame thread to begin with IMO.

I generally don't accuse people of perping, but I've never heard any FIJI anywhere insult their own name (by calling it goofy-sounding).
ETA: I just read another post which indicates that this FIJI-objection is a chapter-wide thing. If that's the case, I retract my perp accusation. However, I've never met a FIJI chapter that, as a whole, refused to adopt its suggested nickname.
Edited again to say that I just went to Phi Gamma Delta's website where it clearly states that Phi Gamma Delta is to be called either FIJI or Phi Gam. Learn something new every day. My apologies to FIJI chapters who choose to call themselves Phi Gams.

This is the post that gets referred to a lot when this topic comes up. It's a pretty concise explanation of why the country example is ignorant.
