You have to understand that if I is not going to kill you or demean you what is the problem. So you think that telling you to repeat your history is wrong and harmful? That's a form of hazing.

Some of the things you are talking about really aren't hazing--sometimes they get classified as such if there are consequences as a result of not completing the task. That is the difference between education and hazing. Its ok to ask new members to learn history--its another thing to ask them to do it under pressure or by memorizing many details. No one is going to get sued for educating members--they may get sued for going to extreme. I think we all recognize that.
Unfortunately, this is litigious society, and my experience has proven that if you give an inch, people will take a mile. This is why many things that seem harmless are classified as potentially hazing. For the record, I know its been said a million times, treasure hunts/scavenger hunts have been designated a potential hazing activity by FIPG (insurance), not necessarily the organizations themselves.
In addition--I was hazed and more than 14 years later I talk to none of my classmates or the people who hazed me on a regular basis. It did nothing to bond us for life, in fact, it created a great deal of friction and mistrust among the members of the organization.
OP, hopefully as you mature you learn how to think about such issues critically and come to understand this topic a little better without yelling.

WTF DO YOU EXPECT US TO SAY??
Jesus......how the hell do I know what is or isn't demeaning or hurtful to you.
Frankly, I don't think making pledges clean the house, or go to study hall, or dress a certain way, or learn history and then grill them on it, or make them get up early on game days to prepare the house and run the bars, or anything else that is similar.... is in any way demeaning or hurtful.

I was hazed in an organization that i did not initiate into or follow through with new membering. I could not go through with that treatment, and then call those girls my sisters, and I know after I left, it got a whole lot worse.
In my sorority, we did things like scavenger hunts, etc but the sisters were always there and as new members, we learned the history, songs, sister (and new member info) rituals, etc. I am much closer to my sisters (obviously) than the girls that continued in the previous organization are with their sisters.
It wasn't easy, but that's due to the time constraints and learning about everything.
I think if you are in an organization that engages in hazing activities, it breeds more hazing (and that attitude) until you are caught or something awful happens. Perhaps this is something that is learned in time.
My hope for the OP is that this lesson is learned.
Also, spell check/proof read. It does a post good.

well I do understand it but some people take it to the extreme it may be wrong to make you clean and cook for me etc. It depends on the organization and what your limitations are not theirs. If you feel that it is wrong open your mouth and say something no one begged you to do this you went to them. Not to impose on other organizations but Black Greek letter organizations feel the need some times to make you prove yourself to them. It just depends. Putting your hands on me is harmful, making me eat something bad is harmful, making me drink until I pass out is harmful. If you don't know your limits how will they know? Sometimes you have to speak up no matter what the situation is. If you don't care they won't

Wannabe--I am all for GOOD discussion, but this is something that has been debated ad nauseam and it is not likely that this time will lead to anything different. I would let this thread drop.
And I certainly don't intend to be mean, but I have a really hard time following your posts and arguments. That probably won't help either. I understand what you are trying to say, but I just see this turning into a train wreck.

Hazing is illegal and it is wrong. Hazing is defined by State. I suggest you review your state's laws against hazing. Hazing is never tolerated--even if the potential new member desires it. Why? Because I cannot pay more in dues when hazing gets out of hand as it often does. It is a matter of "Murphy's Law".
But, you are free to ask DIRECT questions and hope to get a DIRECT answer...

Jessi--
If you want to be made to study your history, dress presentably and run the tables, I hope you have the GPA, units and 2 semester/quarter to have it work for you. Because bottomline, all NPHC sororities require one to serve the community. There is NO discussion of that.
If you want to study history, dress presentably and handle your business, then go get a job because that is what they require of you.
If you want sisterhood and a lifetime of service but you want harmless acts of hazing, then NO NPHC sorority will EVER WANT YOU! You will be labeled as a thug and no one wants that drama in their chapters.
