Exactly. Enough talk about Britney already. If anything, that performance was an omen of what was to come. I tried to keep track of the number of awkward moments, but I lost count.
This was no 'awards show' -- I'm surprised they even handed out awards because it seemed like they'd be in the club/suite panning a shot to whoever was performing at that time. I really liked Justin's Southern Hospitality room, but instead of 20 short clips of people performing, they should have just selected a few and put them on the mainstage. Whoever decided to put Alicia Keys up there needs a pat on the back.
This was, by far, the worst MTV awards show ever. I can't believe how much hype they put leading into it.

I think it was pretty brilliant of MTV to have Britney open. Look how many more people watched it- I never watch it live. If she failed- great, we all get to see a further trainwreck. If she did great, it would be her comeback. It was a no lose situation for mtv!

I'm surprised I'm actually commenting on this thread, as I pretty much loathe Britney. But, I just read this article:
http://tv.yahoo.com/show/35145/news/...ards__ER:12574
It refers to Britney as "embarrassingly out of shape." Yes, I realize she isn't the same size as she was pre-baby (as others here have said), but I think "embarrassingly out of shape" is a bit extreme. (Of course, I'm a mother of two who'd love to be Britney's size, so I'm not entirely objective.)

Britney: *smh* WTF was that?
Justin: I *heart* you for telling MTV to play more videos. And YEAH that you won four moonmen.
Chris Brown: WOW.
Alicia Keys: WOW!!!!!!!!
Sarah Silverman: who are you and BOO.
MTV: I used to look forward to the VMAs. This year's show was sloppy, the lighting was horrible and I was NOT impressed. Do better next year.

TMZ said something about her looking like a house.
Yes, she's not what she used to be when she was 18...but Jesus H. Christ, unless you're a size 00, I don't know how you get away with calling her a house...especially since she had TWO kids. I doubt even Nicole Richie would call Brit fat.

I think she looked great, especially for having two kids. I turned the channel when Sarah started talking. I just dont think she's funny.
The Washington Post disagreed.

Britney looks good for having two kids. She does NOT look good enough to wear what she was wearing last night.

That was painful to watch..she looked so uncomfortable with the whole setup, it was like she was checking out the audience just to see their reaction.

I agree that it probably wasn't a good choice for national television...but let's face it...if she were just a "normal" person walking down the beach in a bikini like that, no one would think twice about it, and I doubt "fat" would ever come to mind.

Yeah she definitely looks good, just not good enough to wear that, and on tv, where you automatically look 10 lbs heavier. Good lord.
And NO ONE at MTV is getting fired- this is the first time anyone has talked about an MTV VMA ceremony in YEARS (note: not me, I haven't seen it, just the pics), much less watched and re-watched it, all because of her performance.

Yeah, she's got balls to be saying the things she did about Brit "accomplishing everything she's ever going to" when she keeps presenting herself as the hot young comedienne and next big thing - never mind that she was on SNL FOURTEEN YEARS AGO. You are in your late 30s hon, get over it.

I CANNOT stand her!!!! Her show (on comedy central i think...???) is just awful awful awful, i do NOT like her sense of humor at all, i think she's just mean!
ETA: i'm likely to laugh at someone falling down the stairs or sarcastic burn humor, etc, but she's just nasty....

She's got a commerical for her show where she talks about her CHARACTER'S name being Sa-rah Silverman, but in real life she Sar-ah Silverman. (Or something like that, you get the point).
Yeah, I don't get it either. She's annoying.

I tried to watch her show once... just once.
I was amaaazed at how not-funny it all was. I mean, how did the network let her air that?
