You're welcome, but I think she can defend herself.

Typing/keyboarding errors are one thing. I'm sure plenty of us have typed "teh" when we intended to type "the" and from the context of what others type and what we read over, most of us accept that the odd missed keystroke and we carry on.

However, when the mistyped word causes the meaning to be the OPPOSITE of what was intended and someone writes that they want to be "apart" (i.e. excluded from consideration) from a group, as opposed to striving to "join" (i.e. become a part of) a member of that group, that is another thing entirely.

It reminds me of a certain GC'er who likes to write "foopah" to mean "faux pas". However, when I read "foopah", I think of "FUPA", which IMO, is just plain gross.

apart = away from or aside

a part = a singular portion or segment of a whole, a singular role in a play/recital, or a single dividing line

Can I just take a minute to point out that the OP was not so much asking for an answer to the question of "why XZY?" but some advice on how to present her answer without sounding desparate. I got the impression she was asking about style, not content.

Now, I am not in the D9, so I don't know if that is still an inappropriate thing to ask, but maybe she already knows that she doesn't have the most polished communication skills, and wants some help.

1) Write down what YOU feel is your ideal response to the question.

2) Find your closest MALE, NON-GREEK friend and read him your response.

3) Listen to what he says and revise accordingly.

The OP originally posted in the DST forum about what does owt mean? That led to her being told to ask in a more approriate place. Then she asks the same question here.

Now she is asking a question relating to membership.

The NPHC forums state that they will not entertain questions relating to membership in their forums.

Now I know what is said about assumptions, but because of her previous posts I have assumed she is seeking membership in a NPHC sorority. Therefore, the question is inappropriate to us, and it seemed she was going around our rules by posting here.

If she is seeking membership in a NPC sorority, then I apologize and will keep quiet and let those GCers answer.

36 posts - hun, you've got a lot to learn about GC.

When you're new to a messageboard, you play by their rules. One of the general GC rules is the cliche - Ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer.

Also, we tend to assume everyone here is college-bound, in college, or alum, and so we expect correct grammar/spelling accordingly. Typos happen when you type something wrong once in a post - when you type it wrong twice, we assume you don't really know the correct way.

Ok, I know this has been used before, and I shouldn't be feeding the troll, but since I haven't put her on ignore yet, I just have to say....

ladygreek lol, I was going to mention that there was no way she was looking at an NPC sorority as we don't really that sort of question, but then I saw she wrote NPHC in her OP and I figured you were just being sarcastic *bows* Do continue.
