Ok, what better time to add to this thread...

I mentioned earlier that I tore my ACL and meniscus in my right knee in the fall (no pun intended). Well, yesterday they did a patellar tendon autograft which basically means they took a tendon out of the front of my knee and made a substitute ACL for me. It wasn't so bad until the numbness wore off. I called my boss today and told him the dr. said right now it looks like I won't be released to go back to work for a month.

But anyway, as you might imagine my knee is rather sore right now... my leg is in an immobilization cast and I'm hobbling around on crutches. Thank God for hydrocodone. Some Ambien would be nice.

I was thinking about you yesterday. Glad to hear you're doing OK. How long will it be until you get to start PT?

Soon, I imagine. Didn't get to talk to the dr. after surgery but I see him on Monday. The dr. said it's probably gonna be around a year's worth of rehab. Right now my goal is to improve enough to where I can go back to BJJ and do just drill some moves from the guard or something relatively low impact like that.

My stomach and throat is killing me, and my nose is a little runny too. I'm very fatigued as well. All I want to do is wrap up in my bed and go night-night.

As you learned the hard way BJJ can be hell on your knees. One tip I can pass along to you (which I didn't know until my third knee surgery) is that while building up your quads is important... you've also got to blast your hams.

Please tell me you don't do leg locks in BJJ? Fortunately, they're illegal in Kodokan Judo.

Yeah I don't think BJJ allows them at most tournaments either, at least not until like brown belt I believe.

Ouch! Those t-shirts are painful to look at. In Kodokan Judo, arm bars are legal, but only for brown and black belts and 17 and over. Personally, I don't like them. I've seen too many bad injuries.

How's the knee feeling now? Do you have an ice-machine and one of those machines that automatically move your leg for you?

Here are some really good videos to inspire you to a speedy recovery!

My body just feels dried out from the extreme cold outside and dry dry heat inside. No amount of lotion and moisturizer is helping. Dry and itchy skin. My sinuses are terribly dry, every time I blow my nose (I have minor allergies year round) I get a small nosebleed. Hopefully the humidifier I bought today will help somewhat.

I know it sounds a little gross, but a tiny bit of Vasoline in each nostril will help your nose from drying out and stop it from bleeding. Learned that trick last year in Sedona.
