Hi Bamadad and Bamamom,
I too am an Alabama alum who "rushed" (as they called it then) in 1970...you're right, everybody is tired and talked out. If daughter has been invited back to the same number of chapters as parties...or more...she is probably not likely to wind up with only 1 choice tomorrow! Tomorrow is Skit Day, and the end is approaching. Not as many parties, so all the girls will be re-energized. Good luck and ROLL TIDE!

It's not a silly question but I have a silly answer. First off there were 7 parties during this round, not 8. Second, in years past there were only 6 parties, hence the nickname Six Party Round. But due to the incredibly large number of PNMs that are participating in Recruitment this year at Alabama they increased the number to 7. No one knows (or is admitting ) why Panhellenic didn't change the name. Many folks refer to it simply as Skit Day.
A little more FYI if anyone's interested. Years ago the previous round was called Ten Party since that was the number of parties . Once we adopted Philanthropy Day everyone started calling it that. Also, the first round was Ice Water Tea and still is for many. However, it has been officially changed by our Panhellenic to Open House. Finally, the last round that most folks call Preference is referred to as Serious Night here (regardless of the time of day it's held).
Another little aside, back at Illinois when I went through Rush (for me too it was called that way back when), we simply called them 1st round, 2nd, 3rd and Pref. I wonder if they still do there? I've discovered that many campuses have different nicknames for the various rounds.

Don't forget - Serious Night used to be held in the evenings! I missed out, but the senior class (when I pledged) was the last year they got to do Serious Night at night and I always heard it was so beautiful. I really wish we had been able to do that!
By the way - ROLL TIDE!!

When I was there we either called them "rounds" or "stages" - first stage, second stage, etc. I think that is still the terminology there.

We just heard from Bama Daughter about fifteen minutes ago. Here is a recap:
* D was invited back to 13 houses of 15 after Open Houses. She cut two sororities and so attended 11 houses on Philanthropy Day.
* D was Invited back to 8 houses of 11 after Philanthropy Day. She cut four sororities and so attended 7 houses on Six Party Day.
And now for today's update.....
* D was invited back to 6 houses of 7 after Six Party Day. She cut three sororities and so will attend 3 houses at Preference Day today!
Thank all of you for your advice (private and public) as we agonized through yesterday's events. My D was obviously a bit too pessimistic when she told us abut her flat conversations at Six Party Day. She is excited and looking forward to today! We told her to let them know how much she wants to belong to any oneof their houses. There is now much more of a frontrunner than ever before, but she said she would be extremely happy with any one of the three. Amen!

Yippie. I was waiting for your update!!!
Congrats to your daughter. Tonight will be an emotional one for her. Prefs are always a sentimental time for the Sorority members and the PNMs.
Good Luck to your family!

Fantastic! Wow! Such a well rounded and popular girl. She will do great. She will be a great asset for any of the three.

Wow! That's simply incredible - obviously, your daughter has what they call "the complete package"!! Please wish her the best of luck from me (and probably everyone else!)!
Re: It will be an emotional night. If she can take a pack of tissues in with her, she will probably need them. Don't worry too much, though, as the sororities will probably have boxes of them ready, too! Also, she may want to check her mascara between parties.
HOW EXCITING!!!!!

Bids are opened at Bryant-Denny Stadium around 5:30 PM Central Time on Sunday. Fingers crossed all the way.
Although my D has yet to be offered a bid, so nothing is certain, I admit to feeling terribly bad for the young ladies weeping their eyes out over their failure to receive invitations. My D feels bad. I understand that competition is a way of life, but if all those young ladies feel as strongly about sorority life as my D, the impact of rejection must be awful. But for the grace of God go I, as the saying goes. She considers herself terribly fortunate to have had such excellent luck throughout rush week.
I will be sure to update everyone once she calls this evening. Stay tuned to BamaDad, a very proud father no matter how the chips fall....

Your pride in your daughter is palpable... so much so, it brings tears to my eyes! Best of luck to you, your daughter, and the rest of the BamaDad family. May your daughter find the home that fills her heart with joy.
