Yes, I had to learn at my job because we used to use it for fingerprint cards. I did not know how to use one before 2001.

The public library near my parent’s home has electronic typewriters. I would always use them to fill out job applications during my quest for the ultimate minimum wage job.

Absolutely!
I completed a journalism degree and (what felt like) billions of resumes and cover letters on my mom's old manual typewriter. Not even electric! The pinky strength required to type "a"'s and semi colins was incredible.

Yeah. I always thought that teacher should have been drawn and semestered.
That's a joke. Get it? It took me a second when I first heard it.

*Groan.*
PS...that was a sympathy groan because of your son leaving. That joke was so bad, it didn't even warrant a groan.

We didn't have a computer in my house until my junior year in high school, so I typed reports on a typewriter for a couple of years.

I started using a computer when I was in about 4th grade or so... (back in like '89 ? so I don't a lot of experience using typewriters, except for to play with when I would visit my mom's office back in the day and she'd let me "type" to keep me entertained. I've also used my grandmother's old non electric typewriter that still had the keys that came up to strike paper. I recently had to learn how to really use a type writer (and learn how to place margins and such) when I worked at an office that refused to update and I typed up the chekcs for accounts payable.

I never had to use one in school - we had computers from K-12, then also in college. I remember playing with one in my parents' office. But the first time I actually USED on was my last job.
I was born in the late 70s

I've used a typewriter before, but never owned one. At my high school, keyboarding classes were taught on the computer (!!) I took the class in the '94-'95 school year and was the last to do so. They really shouldn't have let me take it as typing was part of the intro computer science course, which I took the year before.

I did my college application essays on a PC but the actual applications I typed up on our typewriter... I was the brown noser who wanted to be neat!
