Quite true. You have the pretty rough German versions, the prettier but still somewhat rough French versions, and then the Disneyfied American versions.

She pretty much implies she won't do that in the article that BetteDavisEyes linked above.
Rowling said one character got a reprieve -- I wonder if it's Ron, since she has rather heavily foreshadowed his death a few times.
Rowling also said the two who will die are two she "didn't intend to die." I take that to mean that Harry won't be dying. She says the last chapter, which she wrote some time ago, is hidden away and is "now changed very slightly." If she had intended Harry to die from the beginning but gave him a reprieve, I would think the last chapter would need more than slight changes. Same for if she didn't intend for him to die and now decided he would.

I've always felt is was possible that Harry would have to sacrifice everything to kill Voldemort. And that in fact the prophecy might mean that they both have to die...
I think the dying will keep this from being sanitized in any way.
As a thought, now that the Weasleys are mostly grown, Ginny's what a 6th year this book? What about one of the Weasley parents dying?

How come nobody mentions Hagrid as a possible character to die? You definitely wouldn't see that coming.
Many of you are very well read! I haven't read any of those (non-HP) books.
I too am a big HP fan and I am almost 40! Discovered HP after 9/11 so it was a great fantasy place to go each night on my commute home (I worked in NYC at the time).

What about Fred and George biting the bullet? I don't like the idea but I could see it happening. I could also see it being Ron. I do believe that at least one Weasley is going to die because they're too close to the action and Molly is too afraid that it will happen. Sometimes you have to trust a mother's instinct. Hagrid might not make it as well, to me. Now he's with out a champion (Dumbledore) who is willing to put up with some of his misguided attempts with magical creatures. I love him but I don't know if I can see a place for him in a world without Dumbledore.
As far as Snape, I think that he's not truly evil or truly good. He's only out for what will benefit him the most or keep him alive longer. He hasn't really hurt or killed Harry and he's had the chance but then he hasn't exactly gone out of his way to make anything easy for Harry. But he'll probably survive.

'Harry Potter' actor to be naked on stage
I saw this headline on the front page of yahoo. I guess he's really, really serious about making sure he's not typecast as a child actor.

Not true on the ending for Perrault. Red didn't eat granny at all, the wolf did. I've read the original many times(in French) and recently last week while prepping for my comprehensive exams for my MA in French lit. Red dies because the wolf eats her, there is no sex. He asks her to take of her clothing so he can have a meal, not a sexual act. The end. There is a morality poem at the end warning those who read of various types of wolves (i.e. men) who pursue young ladies.

I see my French teacher exaggerated quite a bit Although I wouldn't be surprised if the story did get more gruesome as it was passed down before it was cleaned up "for the children"
