Down the block from me a lady was having a garage sell. She had her deceased husband's Alpha pari spread out and random ppl attracted to pretty colors were touching it and even buying it . I told her I didn't think it was proper to sell these things to ppl who know nothing about it and that it might cause problems. She told me in a nice granny tone to KIM.

You never know what type of relationship her and her husband had (unless of course you knew them personally). People do a lot of things out of spite and scorn (not trying to justify her actions, just giving another side of things)

The type of relationship doesn't matter. I'm quite sure Alpha Phi Alpha has procedures for how a deceased brother's paraphernalia should be handled.

She's probably thinking the same thing about Alpha. No matter how long they were married, she probably had no consideration or regards for Alpha or anything Greek. If she doesn't care about the organization, why would she care about procedures for paraphernalia? Why would she even contact HQ to learn about the procedures?

I hope this issue is far and few between for Greeks.

@ Marquise1911 - Thanks for speaking up and trying to enlighten her. You know there are some Greeks that would've KIM because those weren't their letters.

Jojapeach, you're right about her feelings for Alpha, or lack thereof.

I wonder if any of his brothers in the area made any attempts to recover his para? Maybe they did and she wouldn't relinquish the items. Heck, I don't know.

I don't know if it was spite, but I think she was more like . "He was my husband and I'll do what I please with his belongings."

I don't think he expressed to her how important A-Phi-A was to him. She said it like she was selling his "BoBo's bowling" uniform. Or maybe she resented how much the frat meant to him. I don't know.

My husband wasn’t in a fraternity. I wouldn’t care if he wanted to wear something of mine, but there’s no way he would –all my shirts & such are too girly looking.

On a slightly different note - I still somehow have a Pike intermural sports shirt that I borrowed from a friend like four years ago when I spilled something on my shirt at their house. I never did return it - but I didn't intend to keep it either. LOL. If I weren't alum now, I'd try to give it to somebody in the local PKA chapter, but I'll just wait until I happen to run into one someday LOL. I never wear it anyhow.

My husband's a Nupe and I don't think he'd appreciate me wearing his Crimson and Cream as I would not appreciate him wearing my Pink and Green. The only thing we share is a mirror. Well, actually we have seperate vanities. AKA's and Kappa's who date/marry had better have seperate mirrors, closets, hell, we compete on who is the better dressed. He is smooth with the bowties....

One of my good friends who's an AKA asked me to babysit her 5 year old kid which I do from time to time to help her out. Her daughter tried to get at my kane one day I was babysittin her. She was like; "I can do a trick with that kane, lemme show you. You want to see?" I was like, ummm, no... OH SHOOT! Look over there out the window it's Santa! I quickly hid my kanes in my closet out of her sight and took her to a movie, by the time we got back she had forgotten those kanes existed.

Question -

A couple of my LB's have sons that are around 5 and can frequently be seen rockin' "future Nupe" or "my daddy's a Kappa", or rockin' the colors, holding the kane, etc. While it clearly isn't an issue now, at what point (age) should your child stop rockin' nalia if not in the org! I have my own theory but interested in others views.

My hubby and I have four children and the 2 boys (7 and 6) wear them now, however I think when they are about 10 it's time to stop. Our girls wear the future AKA shirts as well. However, they wear them if we're at a greek function. What age do you think is too old?
