You're absolutely correct. When it comes to poorly written, long winded posts by someone whose shift key appears to be broken, my reading skills are subpar. Actually, I think that has to do more with my patience in not wanting to take the time to try to translate.
You said that knowing a sorority's reputation and stereotypes would potentially help this poster and others in making their decision. But then you say it would be rude to post these reputations. But isn't it MORE rude to say hey, I know this stuff, but I won't tell you. If these are important things to know, they how is it rude to post them? Especially when no one else here seems to know this information.
Out of the groups listed, and out of all the NPC groups in general, Tri Delta is probably the only one I could say something about. Which may just be due to how frequently they are mentioned in media (i.e. magazines, tv shows, etc.). But really, i've been greek for 6 1/2 years or so now, and have been on this board for probably about 3 1/2. I have yet to really come across national reputations for all the sororities. Local, yes. Regional, perhaps (i.e. Bobby's post). National, no.

I'm glad someone else was thinking it too
ETA: I really wish the Top Newbie Questions thread was required reading in order to sign up to post. Along with the posting video (I think CT4 posted it).

BTW, what's your old account? John is around almost every day now and i'm sure he could get things figured out for you.
If you've just forgotten your password, there's a little link next to the password box that says "forgot your password?". The next screen will take you to a screen where you can put in your email address and it will send you your password.

I can tell you they're all *different* from each other....but aside from the obvious reasons like colours, mottos, reasons for founding etc, I can't tell you *why* they're different. They all just have different feels to them when I look at their sites and stuff.
What I think of as a sorority reputation as a whole would only come from what I see on GC and what my own local Greek life is like. Does that reflect the real world? Hardly.
It's not like people travel to every chapter of every single NPC sorority to see what everyone is like and can then make a judgement. That's really the only way you could do it - and even then your "results" would be subjective b/c it's *your* opinion. Someone else might see something totally different.
One person may think sorority XYZ is a huge organization filled with beautiful women and they have a lot of money, but are down to earth overall. Someone else may see that and think they're a way too big cookie cutter organization of daddy's girls. It's all about perception and no one is ever going to see the same exact thing, so image is useless.

So you decided to join Alpha Phi as an AI because of the colors and motto?

Even on fratty, when people are talking primarily about systems that are in the same area and probably more like each other than not, there are a LOT of people saying things like "I can't believe you said the Nu Mus are hot - at our school they're dogs" and vice versa. If you can't get an agreement on there, I don't think there's one to be had.

Do you know why some women choose to AI a particular org over another?
I mean at that point they're not in college anymore.

Well aside from the fact that certain women are just dying to be in a sorority and join a sorority (any sorority) as an AI because of the fact that some let a lot more in than others, can you think of some reasons why women would AI one org over another?
And if so, please do tell

The two most glaringly obvious things I can think of are Philanthropy - it'd be great to pick an org that does charity you're already involved with - BUT I think the #1 factor comes down to prominence in your area. If you're in Oregon, you're probably not going to AI into ASA, being that the closest collegiate chapter to you is in Alaska and the closest Alum chapter is in San Diego, CA.

If I were trying to become an AI, I'd just the hottest sorority, go to the house and be like, " ok girls, pillow fight!"
Then they'd all look at me weird becuase I was 35 about 40 pounds above my college weight and my skin wasn't as nice
But who cares. Atleast I'd get to pillow fight with the hottest sorority.

Probably some of the same reasons women have for choosing a sorority in college -
- they're a legacy
- their best friend/coworker is in a group, so they've had a lot of exposure to that group
- personal connection/interest in a certain philanthropy
- big/visible alumna group in the woman's hometown
- cutest mascot
You know. The important stuff.
