Definetely gotta agree with you on healthy weightloss. When I was younger my best friends mom dropped from like 330 to like 140 in literally, no more than a few months (she was taking some sort of pills and was pretty close to starving herself). She could fit into a size 12, but good lord, her body just looked TERRIBLE! Now I know when you lose that much weight period, your skin will sag. But this was just beyyyonnddd what it shouldve been. No muscle, no form, no nothing. Just skin. Even her face was awful!

On a side note, I was shocked that they didn't lose more weight. For the size that most of them were, 3-5 lbs a week is not much at all.

Who lost 3-5 lbs a week? Those kids lost 3-5 lbs the whole summer.

While 3-5 lbs a week may not seem like a lot, it's considered healthy. Losing mass amounts of weight in a short period of time can totally screw over your body over.
Even with shows like Celebrity Fit Club, they usually set target loss at 4-6 lbs.
At the end those 3-5 lbs add up, and we saw that with Petey. You could totally tell that he looked better after losing 27 lbs.

I'm all for healthy weight loss, but really 3-5 lbs. is nothing. I'm nowhere near their size and I could easily lose that in a week. I assumed that someone of a heavier set would be able to drop more than that because they HAVE more to lose.
While losing mass amounts of weight rapidly may be bad for your health, I'd be willing to bet that being obese is far worse for overall health. People who have their stomachs reduced lose TONS of weight all at once and are better off for it (even though they're left with lots of extra skin, which is just a result of them stretching it out with their excess weight gain).

You are definately right. It is much easier for obese people to lose more weight a week than others.

My roommates and I figured that they had lost weight at camp in the past and kept it off but still had friends at that camp so they kept returning. Or their parents were paying 10K for them to lose 5 pounds.

yeah...but keep in mind that these are just teenagers, so it's not like they're going to be focused on that the entire time. Really more than anything this was just a regular summer camp that just HAPPENED to promote healthier eating(which honestly, i don't know how "healthy" it really was) and gave fat kids a chance to be around others like them.
I think we just need to remember that the weight took a long time to pile on, so it's just not going to "fall off", despite working hard!

Really, I'd like to know how you work out, cause i'm trying to lose weight. I've been working out for 3 weeks and i've only lost 3 1/2 pounds (and i'm starting to even gain some back..yikes).
I think i stand to lose a little weight (around 20 lbs...i'm 135). But to me, 3-5 lbs a week is A LOT...maybe i'm wrong though.

Honestly I don't work out... I walk quite a bit every day for class, but that's as far as I go. My eating habits are terrible - I have a serious fast food addiction, but I maintain a good weight. I find that simply switching to healthy foods and smaller portions is enough to drop the pounds easily. I can only assume that working out would add to the weight loss, but I'd rather not go that route.

how tall are you?
the more obese you are, the easier it is to lose 3-5 lbs a week. The less obese you are, the harder it is. But even then, losing 3-5 lbs a week if you aren't obese is unhealthy and not recommended.
But if you are a tub of lard like these kids, and you can't lose 3 lbs then they are doing something wrong.

I'm 5'3..give or take (depending on what i use to measure my height..lol).
Its a bummer though cause before I entered high school I was around 120...which was pretty good...and then by the end of high school I had ballooned up to 140, and now i'm back to 135. Eventually i'd like to get to 110-120, but i'm kinda working my way there...hopefully by June, i'll have my "beach body." lol.
But it is serious hard for me to keep the weight off, and I guess being a fast food addict doesn't help..lol.

You guys need to keep in mind that it's not just about WEIGHT loss. This is one thing I really hated on Biggest Loser and Celebrity Fit Club. Everyone knows that muscle weights more than fat so they should be doing measurements instead of actual weight to see who is successful. One time I gained 10 lbs but I lost a few inches. That really annoys me.

You're kind of right, but kind of for the wrong reasons . . . yes, especially for people who are over 25-30% body fat, BMI (and physical measurements) are probably more accurate than strict weight measurements.
However, especially for people without an extensive workout history and/or are not lifting extensive weights, you should lose weight in the form of fat faster than you gain it in the form of muscle (especially early).

That's what I meant was for people who are working out extensively... I should have mentioned that. But I gave the example of Biggest Loser because they mostly measured with weight loss, not BMI (I forgot what that stands for but I know it has to do with body fat).
