Danny Tanner would suck at law school.

Uncle Jesse with that hair would make it big as a criminal attorney.

Everywhere you look , everywhere you go
(there's a heart)
There's a heart
A hand to hold onto

Man, Danny Tanner would be like a boring bankruptcy attorney or something. I don't want to be a boring lawyer. I wanna be like that chick on Law & Order who has to go in the witness protection program because the mob is out to get her. OK, maybe not, but something more interesting than bankruptcy.

Intellectual Property Law (that's what I was going to go into).

Come to think of it, I think I'm a pretty big nerd for thinking that's interesting...

Actually, I think IP law is interesting; I also think real estate, family, and health law are interesting as well. So I guess I'm an even bigger nerd.

I am considering naptime law and beer law.

I told one of the biggest republicans in my class yesterday I wanted to be a labor lawyer. I don't think we are friends anymore.

Haha, well you're still cool in this Republican's book.

It's good that in my current job I'm dealing with people in all parts of law. I had a long conversation with a top family lawyer last week, and it got me really interested. Of course, that could change depending on who I talk to next week.

I think family law sounds REALLY interesting, my favorite prof from this semester teaches it. I am going to take it next year if I can get in. It's one of the practice groups at our clinic, so if I love it, there will be a lot of opportunity for me.

How are your apps coming?

Family law -- is -- interesting. As a solo practitioner, you still have to be able to deal with complex legal arguments on a regular basis -- or at least we do.

Also, your clients aren't criminals or anything special -- they're just regular people. Our office represents everything from Persian businessmen (we've had a spat of those lately) to a platinum selling recording artist to truck drivers -- I can't think of too many other places where you become intimately involved in the affairs of such a wide range of people. It's very interesting from that side of things.

From the making complex arguments side of things, I visit the state Supreme Court 2-3 times per month in filing appeals. Only a few more years of lawschool and I'll be able to do more than make envelopes, keep the files orderly, do research and write letters

Another nice thing about the attitude between attorneys is FAR more collegial than say the criminal docket.

family law

I practice Family Law in Key West. Like other people have said, it is very interesting and you meet a number of different types of people. You must know how to separate yourself from your clients though. DO NOT become emotionally involved. Family law also combines a lot of other aspects of the law as well.
I personally do divorces, divorce modifications, adoptions, dependency and may get into some delinquency stuff. My boss does the criminal work- I stay the heck away from it.
When it comes to getting a job most of what everyone has said is pretty accurate. My friend went to Harvard undergrad (full ride), was a teacher for a while and then went to law school w/ me. She's about 10 years older than me. She was on Law Review, Moot Court, everyone knew her and she was the graduation speaker (I nominated her). She now works for a HUGE law firm in Fort Lauderdale and works an obscene amount of hours a week, but makes a lot of $.
I was involved in clubs and was an officer in 1 club while in Law School. I took part in the Family Law clinic my last semester which gave me a lot of experience. I had an entire trial under my belt even before I passed the Bar.
I was very lucky though. My boss was looking for someone to do her domestic work and someone she could mentor and teach both the legal side of a law office and the business side of a law office to.
I am not from KW and only came to the interview b/c I have never been here. You never know where life will take you.
Sorry for rambling- I just don't feel like writing up the motions I need to take care of this morning.
Ali

Ali, do you think your firm might be hiring in about three years? I would love to live in Key West, I'm jealous!
