No Raised letters
We usually allow the new members to wear the letters that were screenprinted....but NO RAISED LETTERS. That means that someone that is not an initiated sister should not be wearing the traditional 4 inch raised letters with the stitching. Screenprinting is different because those are used for events and during recruitment/greek week. Hope that clears up the difference. And remember, our letters are the most sacred thing we have

Hi there just wanted to put my two cents in here. Regarding wearing letters for non-initiated people. We just had a small discussion about this at Division Conference and Tara can chime in here on the subject too as one of our advisors. We can't stop a new member (or anyone else) from wearing our letters. But in particular we can't stop a new member as that would be hazing.
We're one of the more economically challenged chapters so we don't do things like buy shirts for everyone for bid day etc. We used to do bid day activities and make letters and tote bags with letters with the new members but some sisters in the chapter wanted to stop doing this (i wasn't one of them). We don't hand them the letters anymore but if a new member wants to go out and buy her own, including stitched letters, she can wear them right away. Let me tell you it was very strange seeing our new member Teresa without anything identifying her as Phi Sig, except for her pin, when I saw her on campus. It really hit me this Saturday at Division Conference since we had purchased matching letter shirts and I realized this was the first Phi Sig shirt that Teresa had. I kind of wish we would go back to making bid day shirts and tote bags with the new members, I really miss seeing their pride in being a new member.
As for anyone else wearing our letters there is nothing that says they can't. I'm going to make a shirt for my mom with the letters and the word Mom on it, some of the sisters in the chapter that I had told thought I shouldn't do it. My response was that our official supplier now sells shirts with letters and mom or dad on it so why can't I make it. The sisters didnt' know that CO has officially sanctioned that type of shirt. Their not going to understand what they mean the way any initiated sister is going to but mom and dad can show off their pride in their Phi Sig daughter.
Finally just one other thing. There has been discussion over on the Greek Life forum about not being able to wear letters. One of the members on there said something that I thought was fantastic. Our letters are precious but they are not our most sacred thing, our ritual is our most sacred thing. Ritual is what sets us apart from every other Greek organization around the world.

My little sister who is probably going to rush Chi Omega or Kappa Alpha Theta this spring wears my shirts all of the time. She has a hoody that says Phi Sig in raised 4 inch letters in leopard print and underneath it says: Legacy.
My mom's little bag is going to have Phi Sig in cow material with Mom underneath
There is nothing in our constitution that says that I can't. Otherwise, why do we have legacies and parent's clubs? Especially if they can't wear our letters as advertisements to get new members.

And here's my bit about this...
I don't think it's right. If they wanted to wear our letter's, they should have joined our organization.
With that said, I agree that parent's, legacies, and sweethearts should be allowed to wear the letters, as long as it states underneath "Mom", "Dad", "Legacy", "Sweetheart", etc.
And I agree that it should be alright for other organizations to wear the letters on a t-shirt for recruitment or other events... Only because there are other orgs. letters on there too. (And like someone said before, it's in silk screen... not stitched letters.)
But I would NEVER give my sweatshirt or anything else with my letters on it, to anyone but a sister!!! Granted, if my best friend was freezing to death, then I'd turn it inside out, and let her wear it... But she is not a Phi Sig, so she will not wear the letters.
I think that it is disrespectful to let anyone touch my letters, let alone wear them!
Now, with all that said, if someone wanted to wear a shirt that said, for example, "I love PHI SIGMA SIGMA!" That would be different... Because the name is spelled out...
I donno... I guess because I have a lot of friends that are in greek organizations that don't take things like this lightly, that it's worn off on me.
Well, I just wanted to add my $0.02.

Ooohhhh!!
I see some grey areas here. Personally, I agree with Carolyn that Ritual is the absolute most sacred thing. Anybody can put our letters on a shirt, but only Phi Sigs will know ritual and the true meaning. We convey our pride in everyday life activities. It annoys me to see mainly "local" sororities use their colors and letters like "gang" attire. We need to stay way, way, away from that. I am quite tired of hearing them say that they have respect for their letters. What does that mean?? I have respect for myself. How can you have respect for a T-shirt??

shirt idea
If anyone has any good ideas for a shirt for an event I need one. I'm usually pretty good at this, but I'm stumped for this one. We are having a "Famous Couples" event where you dress as famous couples or duos like Lucy and Dezi or Laverne and Shirley. Anyone got any cute ideas????? I'd appreciate it.
Thanks.

How about a romeo & juliet thing using the balcony scene with a background color and the couple/balcony in black... like the scene is backlit.

Maybe a "Double Trouble" shirt, since it is a couples theme. You could pick a particularly mischevious pair to feature.

Extra Shirts
I really like to have Phi Sig shirts, and I bought one from our Theta Xi Chapter at Nova. Does any chapter have shirts that they have extras of and are willing to sell them for like $5 or just even give to a sister

did I hear someone wanted shirts!?! hee hee. I am the shirt queen.
I posted this in my live journal but I'll post it here too. I am placing orders right now for my chapter for shirts (and some cute pants!) I am waiting for a few alum to get back to me to place the order so there is still time if you would also like to order.
here's the info.
1. fitted women's polos. color: baby yellow. royal blue Phi Sigma Sigma screenprinted in greek letters on the left chest. Adult Sizes: S-XL Price: $20
2. Women's cap sleeve shirt. Color: Navy (this might change to white. I'll let you know. We have had a wide variety of colors lately: pink, red, black. so i might keep this one traditional) Phi Sigma Sigma written in Gold (maybe a gold glitter. hella stands out. and if we do white instead the color will be blue glitter) phi sig will be written out in a cute font and the last a in sigma will loop around underneath and get larger towards the phi. In the larger part of the loop it will say: CSU Stanislaus. Adult Sizes: S-XL Price: $15
3. Women's Baseball tee: Long Sleeved. White Body with Navy Sleeves. (this might be hard to described) a star will be in the background. The star will be outlined in Red and will resemble an American flag. The top part of the star will be Navy and the bottom will have vertical Red stripes. Written out in a bubbly font will be Phi Sigma Sigma (the first sigma will most likely be directly on top of the star) Phi Sig will be outlined in both Navy and Red. Underneath all of that in Navy it will say: All Stars. Adult Sizes: XS-XL Price: $18
and
Women's Cotton Fleece Pants in Blue. Pink letters written horizontally in Greek on left leg . Sizes: S-XL Price: $22
I also have left over shirts from last semester. I am working on getting pics uploaded of them and putting them on theta mu's website.
email me @ heatermae8@aol.com if you would like to order. include your sizes and which shirts and your address. Thanks!!

T Shirts
If your chapter has extra t-shirts are they willing to sell them? I always love to get phi sig shirts, and that would be awesome if we did a swap or paid like $5 for one, instead of it just sitting around in a box somewhere.
