Fat people and being a christian

I have watched both the CC and TBN frequently and in every Lakewood broadcast Pastor Osteen NEVER asked for money. He has never said anything like "send me $100 and you will be healed" type mess. He closes his broadcast with a call for unbelievers and backsliders to come to Christ - and that's it. The Osteen family never has, even when his father was still alive and head pastor. Only until about a year ago, has the pastor olsteen even began selling ministry tapes and books, which if you go to his website, the most expensive one is about $15 - no where close to the $100 you talking about . What you just spoke about ($$ and the call center) has to do with the CC staff and TBN staff, not Lakewood nor Pastor Olsteen. So before you go calling people out as shady, you need to do some research.

Good grief, I could understand if Lakewood didn't do nothing but just sat around on their hands and knees and just complain (like many believers) but they are actually putting God's word into action http://www.lakewood.cc/site/PageServer - Shoot, what are you doing? Now, there's nothing wrong with asking for money to support a ministry as long as it goes toward THE MINISTRY. When we say "building fund" we don't mean "building the pastor's new house" fund. I'm mad at that one for you, that was unnecessary and I'm sorry one of your impressions of Christians had to be that.

Honeykiss, you just know that I have to agree with you on this one! I am living proof of the Power of the Holy Spirit, and how He can and will heal all of those who want to accept His healing by the touch of another's hands. Cashmoney, there isn't one person on this message board who doesn't know about your distaste for obesity. For all I know, there could be some people who are praying for you about it! If ALL believing Christians were obese and slovenly, you might have a point - but they are most certainly not! Many churches have fitness groups, both prayer & and actual work out classes. The women-only fitness business, Curves, is owned and operated by a Christian who gives all the glory to the Lord.

Frankly, your remarks are out of line, misogynistic, and shallow, and I think you owe quite a few people an apology.

BTW, Could someone let me know what school of theology the esteemed be-mulleted Reverend Osteen received his Doctorate of Divinty from? I'll settle for a masters of psychology? A bachelors in business administration? An associates in HVAC? I'll even accept a submission at any level from a nonsense bible college. I just want us all to be clear on his educational background. Ya know, the stuff that qualifies him to lead a church of 20,000. The years of intensive research and study into religion and philosophy. The counseling classes he had to take. Study of other religions and such. All the things that make a credible theologian.... Seriously, I'll send $100 to anyone who can post Joel Osteens academic credentials here on GC. Just post a link. Its really easy money... At least it should be....

i didn't see any statistics correlating obesity to Christianity, or any other religion. there are numbers that basically show the poorer, the fatter.

maybe that's why treatments (e.g. weight-loss programs) are tax deductible (AOA tax break info) for folks diagnosed with the aforementioned sandwich disease. i haven't found any official numbers yet, but anecedotal testimony has shown that people who retain and seep cold cuts from the neck area tend to migrate to McDonalds.

Don't forget that some people are fat through no fault of their own. A friend of mine has Lupis. It's part of the disease. She hates being fat, but she's on prednisone and all kinds of drugs just to keep her alive.

There are people too, with thyroid problems. Graves Disease, (hyperthyroidism) once treated, can permanently lower the metabolism.

Sure, but way too many people blame being slovenly on medical issues. This is in no way scientific, but I'd bet that maybe 5% of people who are obese have an underlying medical problem that made them that way.

The rest are fat cause they like the Dairy Queen.

I doubt there are any reliable stats on the subject. But in any event, you're probably correct... I'll bet the vast majority of those who are obese are that way because they over-eat and don't exercise.

But, who are we to judge? My friend gets looks of disgust all of the time. I knew her when she was slim, and before she became sick. It's really sad how society treats her now. She tells me that either people act like she's invisible, or give her dirty looks. It's not her fault she's overweight. She's very ill with a fatal disease.

But she's still the same sweet Nancy I have always known. It's what's inside that counts. She'll always be my friend whether she's 110 pounds or 210 pounds.

I have been reading this thread; and over and over only one thought comes to mind: What does Cashmoney mean by obese? If I am not mistaken, didn't he call a 5'2" and 110-112 lb woman "chunky" in a different thread?
