Wishful thinking?
Maybe he'll be wearing one of those spiffy dress shirts he's purchased on eBay recently when he presents the document as a gift to Tri Delta's HQ! Not sure whether he'll wear one of the new helmets, though. WTF?!??!
Seriously, I hope he's got some Tri Delta affiliation and loyalty. This would be a complete travesty if it doesn't end up in Tri Delta's archives. If anyone gets an update on this, please let us know!!!

She might have been...you never know.
I was watching the auction when it got to 2 minutes to go...and by the time it hit 53 seconds I was having trouble accessing the page. That could have easily happened to the others who were trying to be the final bidder.

that's so true.
even if this person has some kind of Tri-Delta connection (like a mom, girlfriend or wife) I still think it would have been better for the HQ to have it in their archives otherwise it might be sold at another estate auction later on.
I noticed a couple of cheerleading items in his winning history.. so it's possible he has some kind of tri-delta connection. it just really makes me sad it didnt land up w/ the HQ

I am quite familiar and there's nothing that Tri Delta can do. First Sale Doctrine is the basic legal concept that governs, it's really a big long thing and i'm way too tired to explain it all.
Unless it can be proved that the item was stolen, which is quite doubtful, there's nothing that can be done.

its times like this i wish i was a rich alum, cause i would have bought it

The best we can hope for is maxsae has some sort of Tri-Delt connection and will return it to your EO. By their bid history, I don't believe it is a collector. Possibly a husband/wife who share the same username. My husband bids on items under my ebay username, giving me a very odd bid history.
It is disappointing that your Archivist wasn't able to save it.
Here's what the seller had to say about how they obtained the book:
Quote:
In answer to unanticipated numerous inquiries - we purchased this book at a local estate auction in central Illinois - in the small town of Annawan. I am not a member nor are any of my relatives members of the DELTA DELTA DELTA organization. I have no way to authenticate this book other than the signiatures and dates contained within its pages and the actual physical book itself. And we will NOT end the auction early. This is and will always be our policy. Thank you for all the interest and GOOD LUCK!

The cynic in me
Say that if this winner does not donate it directly to the DDD Archives....
They will contact the DDD EO and offer a "deal" for a whole lotta profit
I grieve with my NPC sisters at DDD right now....
Keep trying.
Darn I should have stayed up, I am the *queen* of snipe!!! (there is a technique that works!)

News???
What's the latest - does anyone know??? Has the buyer contacted EO or has EO contacted him (or her)? From the eBay history, the buyer doesn't seem to be a collector of expensive stuff (a plastic troll doll??? ) so I bet you're right - they're going to flip it for a profit. Ack!

I think it would be nice if we had some kind of way to donate to a fund which would give Tri Delta access to designated money which was donated for the purpose of buying historically important Tri Delta items from public sales.
I know a people on the board said that if they had the money they would buy the constitution on ebay. I think many other alums feel the same way. Maybe one of us doesn't have the money to do it but be certainly have the money collectively.
Theta has a policy of their HQ not buying ebay items and I generally agree with that because by bidding on them we hike up the price and encourage more selling. For that reason, if there was such a fund I don't think it should be used to buy Tri Delta badges or new member pins, even though those things are sacred to Tri Deltas. However, in the extraordinary situation where a document, item, or pin comes up which has historical significance and rightfully belongs in the Tri Delta archives I think there should be a fund for the purpose of buying that item.
This is just an idea... but I was wondering do other sororities have such a setup?

ZTA doesn't have a program like KKG or GPhiB although I think it would be a good to have. I've seen ZTA History books and historical pins on EBay that I can't bid on because I can't afford it.
Maybe each org could keep a list of EBay usernames that their members use? This could prevent members from outbidding each other and raising the price (as I think we saw happening with the TriDelta constitution). A lot of the PHC sororities have a list on GC but not all members would think to look on GC.

Great idea!
What a GREAT idea - I know I'd be willing to pitch in to establish such a fund. Of course we couldn't buy everything, but historical items like our constitution are TREASURES that should never leave our hands. Sigh!!! Does anyone know what the latest is with the constitution? Has the eBay buyer contacted national? News - I'm dying for news!!!
