Very, Very Interested
Hello all,
I am relatively new to posting but I also LOVE to read and would love to hear others opinions and comments about different books. I am interested in being on the committe to help get this thing started. Everyone has a lot of great ideas about the direction of this book club and if we put our heads together we can come up with something concrete so we can get this started ASAP, hopefully in August.
What I suggest is that everyone who is interested in organizing the book club, etc. meet on AOL, MSN, or Yahoo (whichever is best for everyone) and come to some concrete desicions. I suggest a group of 5-7 people at first, that way if there is a disagreement then there will always be someone to break the tie and if the group of people is smaller then it will be easier to come to definate decisions. If this sounds okay to everyone, I suggest we get on this ASAP, I'm thinking all those who want to be apart of the planning team can meet on Sunday, bring ideas and start hashing things out.
Let me know what you think....

***ATTENTION***
I am forming a committee for the GC Book Club. I would like the initial committee to be no more than nine (9) members. For those who are interested please contact me via PM or IM. My IM name is: headwomaincharge. Please note the spelling.
The first eight people who are interested and IM or PM me by Sunday, July 13th will be in the committee (along with myself). From there we will decide on who can be monthly leaders, books, topics, etc.
If you are interested in being a monthly reader please IM or PM me as well.
Thanks,
Gina

September Selection
The book club committee is currently in the process of finalizing our selection for September. Once finalized, the selection will be posted. If you would like to be the book leader for the selection please PM or email me to let me know.
Thanks to all who participated in last month's book selection. A special thanks also goes out to ClassyLady, who was the discussion leader last month.
Please note that starting with September the book discussions will begin in the middle of the month. This will allow time to get the book, read the book, etc.

Septmber Book Club Selection
Our next book will be Getting Mother's Body by Suzan Lori Parks.
Here is the review from Amazon:
Like a country quilt, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Suzan-Lori Parks's spellbinding first novel, Getting Mother's Body, is pieced together from rags: short and slanted scraps of narrative recounted by various friends and members of the hard-luck Beede clan of Ector County, Texas. These sad, wily, bickering voices tell the story of Billy Beede--poor, unmarried, and pregnant--and her dead mother, the "hot and wild" blues singer, Willa Mae Beede, who may or may not have been laid to rest with a fortune of diamonds and pearls in her coffin. When a letter arrives announcing that a supermarket is being built on the ground where Willa Mae was buried, Billy determines to dig her up and get the jewels. But Willa Mae's embittered female lover, Dill Smiles, is just as intent on keeping the corpse in the ground. Deeper and richer than a typical quest novel, Getting Mother's Body is also the story of an African-American family, of beauty winding like bright thread through long-held grudges, hopelessness, and greed. --Regina Marler
If you are interested in this book, Amazon does have new and used copies starting at $5.00.
If you would like to be the book leader for September, please email or PM me.
We would like the discussion to start the week of Sept. 15th
Thanks!!
