I have a short hair cut and for the past year I've been trying products to make my hair curly or wavy(sp) while its wet. I guess you can say its the wet look. I've tried different kinds of mousse and my hair just doesn't react to it. I'm starting to think that my hair isn't the right texture for this type of look, but I've seen people with short hair as well as longer hair who have achieved this look and their hair seems to be just about the same texture as mine.

Does anyone know what I can use on my hair? It's the summer and I want do something so I don't have to spend so much time on my hair.

I beleive that look is acheived by using a texturizer, which is a very mild relaxer. The texturizer relaxes the natural curl to a wave instead of bone straight like a perm.

The only other way to acheive this look if it is not your natural texture is with a cold wave/jerri curl type product. This is NOT recommended.

Black folks have so many different types of hair.. it may be that your hair just isn't right for it. I had a class with a girl who wore her hair that way and it was cute and low-maintenance. She told me to wash and then condition with Mane 'N Tail, leave it in and let it air dry. My hair is well past my shoulders and takes forever to dry, so I'm chillin in my room waiting for this cute style to happen. Only mine ended up all nappy and matted looking.. I had to wash it all over again. I think it just wasn't meant for my hair.

On another random note. I usually hate washing my own hair at home cause it takes about 2-3 hours to dry/flat-iron/curl it. But I found this miracle stuff, I swear. It's Bone Strait blow-dry lotion, and it makes blow-drying faster and MUCH straighter. It only took about 20 minutes to straighten my hair as opposed to the usual hour and a half. Best of all, it comes in little packets that are only $.99. Just my style.

Girl I did the same thing but my hair ending up looking like a frizzy afro.

Mccoyred, is it safe to put different chemicals in your hair like that(ie. you havve a perm and instead of getting a touch up you get a texturizer).

Maybe I need to come to grips with fact that I probably will not beable to achieve this style. Besides every hairstyle isn't meant for everyone to wear. Dang, it would have been so cute though.

I've taken up the practice of braiding my hair so I can avoid heat styling and pulling my hair, a friend of mine did this for 2 semesters an her air looks great now.

Candygirl...

I read somewhere that another approach is to wash your hair, and spray on a setting lotion that is also a texturizer (like Lottabody) and then start braiding from the bottom, doing small sections and letting it air dry. I wanted to try it, but the last time I washed I didn't feel like dealing with the drama if it turned out crazy.. but has anybody else tried this? Some stylist SWORE this is how they do Beyoncé's.

I've tried the braiding technique before and it didn't work, but that was because it wasn't braided tight enough I guess. I'm going to have one of my friends do it for me and I'll see how it turns out.

Last time I posted I was thinking about going natural again. Well, in March I got braids and haven't looked back. I will pay $250 to get the braids that I want and they last 3 months. I got tired of the micro braids and did the corn row...love it. When I go to the SW Regional Conference, I will have the micros again.

Braids work if you keep your hair moisterized daily. If you use the human hair some braids may slide off..if you use synthetic you must keep it moisterized. I find that Braid X is the best. When I take my braids out my hair is always soft. My hair has grown about 4 inches and I haven't had a perm since January.

Also, if you have the micros and dread taking them done..if you have human hair with your micros the easiest way to take them out is to stand in the shower and let the water run on your head and the braids slide off with easy. It may have taken 6 hours to do it but it can take 45 mins. to an hour to take them down.

Yes!! I do my hair this way a lot of times when it's hot and humid outside and I don't want to put my hair in a ponytail. It doesn't take a lot of time to do, either!! All you have to do is wash and condition your hair, and after you've washed the conditioner out, part your hair into sections like you are going to cornrow your hair. They don't have to be terribly small sections, you can do them as large as about an inch wide. My hair is pretty thick, so this does well for me. I always cornrow my hair back first before I add the Lottabody, it also helps me if I let my hair dry a little before I start braiding; it's easier to grip, and I don't have to worry about it breaking. After I've braided my hair, I put rubber bands on the ends and spray it with the Lottabody, which, if you have the undiluted stuff that comes in the see-through plastic bottle, be sure to dilute it a little, but not too much because that is also what keeps your hair wavy. You can sit under the dryer for about 30-45 minutes or until dry, but if you have a little time on your hands, you can let it air-dry. When you undo the braids, be sure to have some hair oil, hair grease, hair polish nearby. I usually dip my fingertips in hair grease and as I undo the braids, the oil is on my hair. If you like the "twisties" look, don't undo the braids all the way, leave the braids in the front and let the back be kind of bushy. If your hair looks a little dry, and you don't like to use hair grease or if it weighs your hair down, Lusters Pink Oil has a very good hair polish on the market that works very well. It's in a clear plastic bottle with a pump spray. I wouldn't advise using oil sheen, however, because as soon as you spray it on, you have to apply more because the alcohol in the spray dries your hair out. I hope I didn't ramble too much and you can follow this, if you have any questions, please e-mail me. Also, let me know how your hair turns out when you do it!! Now, I don't know what Beyonce's stylist is doing to her hair these days, maybe she's tried this on her, but taking that ratty weave out and starting fresh on a new one might help!!

I know that if you use use vitamin e oil in your hair, that will definitely made your hair grow. Also, the product line called kerakare. It's really exspensive, but it is guarnteed to strengthen and grow your hair

Thumbs up

Yes KeraKare is terribly expensive, but you get your money's worth. About 10 months I suffered some major breakage, so I decided to limit the number of relaxers I would normally get, I would just wash my hair weekly, wrapped it very tightly (I have thick hair) and let dry. It takes about 15 hours for my hair to dry completely. So I usually do it on a Friday night and it's dry and straight and needs virtually no curling on Saturday just in time for most HBCU football or basketball games. Also to combat the breakage I did alot of textured things,(so I wouldn't have terrible looking hair from not relaxing it ) I would cornrow my hair for about two weeks then take them down and have the wavy look, or double straid twist my hair (a good starting place locs)I was just careful to take them down and redo them every week so they wouldn't begin to LOC. Now my hair is healthier and shinier, and growing back, and I love it!!!

It is NOT safe to overlap chemicals in your hair. Let the chemical grow out and trim/cut to the new growth before applying different chemicals to your hair.

Nubian, what are you eating and drinking? I know for a fact that diet can affect your hair.

I am natural, have been since 2001. I do wear braids so my hair is exposed to any chemical in the braiding hair.

I have had up and downs with my hair during the growing stages. I exposed it to color twice, which is now all cut off. I also became a product junkie. Its fine to try different things but a good daily moisturizer, mild shampoo and a rich conditioner is all you really need. Do not comb your hair with fine toothed combs, brush your hair and scalp softly a few times a week for stimulation and to remove shedded hair. Wear a silk/satin scarf religously when you sleep. Even do these things if you remain relaxed. But consider going natural. Give this time, it will take a while for you to see change.

I had a friend who wore wigs for like two years, she experieced a complete change. Her hair was falling a part, bald patches, it was a mess. She cut the damaged parts, started to wear cornrows beneath the wig and washed, conditioned and re-braided it weekly. She began a supplemental vitamin and changed her eating habits. I mean her hair grew like a weed. Its past shoulder length now. It was about 3-4 inches with broken patches everywhere at first...

Oh yes, cannot forget this. Don't know if it helps, but at night she would use wildgrowth oil between the rows and put on her satin scarf. I put her on the wildgrowth oil because it works wonders on my hair, esp when I wear braids.

Hope this helps, PM me if you have any other questions about her regimine!!

Wildgrowth Oil

That is some good stuff right there. Worth every bit of the $8.
