You'd take the current Miami team versus.. say Nebraska from '95?

I'm talking about over all college football programs ever....the fact that you had to go way back to 95 to find a great Nebraska team proves my point.

WTF are you smoking? He DISPROVES your point by going back to 95 to find a great Nebraska team. You said the sentence previous, OVER ALL(sic) programs.

Miami hasn't won the whole enchilada since 2001. Before that you have to go back to 1991 to find a "great" Miami team. So, that gives you 4 championships in the 80's(counting 91) none before 1983. Y'all had a good decade. Nebraska was winning championships in the 70's as well. Before y'all burst on the scene in 80, y'all hadn't been in a bowl game since 1967. Nebraska, on the other hand, was in a bowl game EVERY year in that span from 1969 on. While Miami has RECENTLY become a powerhouse, the prolonged year in and year out success of teams like Nebraska, Oklahoma, Michigan, Bama, USC etc is what a GREATEST OVERALL COLLEGE FOOTBALL PROGRAM would be defined as.

We could also go on overall won-loss record or winning percentage, both of which OU and NU has the "u" beat.

Best of the last 20 years? Maybe. You've got some stiff competition for that. Nebraska until recently has been pretty good. So has FSU.

Best of "All time?" -- now you're only claiming the last 20 years. Which is it?

Dude, please learn to put together a cogent argument and then actually respond to criticisms made on it without shifting the scope.

Actually I feel that CFB didn't have a level playing field until the early eighties b/c of the social climate, I respect the Nebraska,OU and ND teams of the 40s-70s but none of these teams could compare to the teams of the 80s until the present. Therefore I base my claim on the era when no one was excluded from certain positions and a player's talent was the only criteria of him being allowed or not allowed to play.

Are you talking about race?

The last all-white team to win a national championship was '69 -- Texas (a fact that I love to bring up to anyone who follows UT).

It was actually OU and Barry Switzer that started to really recruit non-white athletes which pretty much forced everyone else to open their doors. Hence the OU championships throughout the 70's.

I think if you throw everything out there but the last 20 years though, you're right. Miami has a good case for having the best recent history of football where championships are concerned. Good luck on #2 for the decade in the 2006 NC. Looks like the U is out of the picture again for this year

FORGET USC AND OKLAHOMA........

Ladies and Gentlemen, the polls, computers and stats are now utterly meaningless. Disregard the success of such programs as Notre Dame, USC, Michigan, Oklahoma and Nebraska. Tonight, not only was the 2004/05 BCS game participants decided.....

THE TWO COMBATANTS FOR THE GREATEST COLLEGE FOOTBALL PROGRAM EVER (WELL, NOW HE SAYS THE LAST 20 YEARS) HAVE NOW BEEN DECIDED:

NORTH CAROLINA, by their virtue of their last second win over "The greatest college football program ever (Well, now he says the last 20 years)", will face CLEMSON, following their OT win over "The Greatest college football program ever (Well, now he says the last 20 years)".

Tarheels and Tigers fans everywhere rejoice. You are now battling for the coveted "You beat "The greatest college football program ever" so now, by virtue, are now playing to be called best college football programs of all time" title.

miami is digging itself of a hole, and may end up just fine, but the prelude was kind of messy.

I always do enjoy seeing Miami lose.

But they have MAJOR talent there. They'll definitely be back next year.

But can't you see all the bandwagoners trading in their Canes jersies for Trojans jersies?

I'm waiting patiently for the " The USC Trojans are the best college football team in history" Thread.

Go ahead, AXE, start it, we know you want to.
