I am sorry to hear that you weren't invited back.

Definitely give COB a chance! You never know unless you try!

Good luck!

It baffles me that a girl can get invited back to seven of nine house after round 1 and then get NO invites back after that. Does the school not use release figures at all?? Sorry, this just really makes me think.

From what I remember our Recruitment advisor telling me the other day (I went to sdgirl's school) the second night is 7 parties for spirit night and then it goes down to 4 parties for philanthropy night. So the PNMs have to cut 3 houses and most of the houses have to cut a lot of girls as well...it unfortunately is not a perfect system, as we all know.

sdgirl, I think you should definitely look into COB. There is usually (no guarantees though) 1 or 2 houses that don't make quota or are under total at the end of rush so there should at least be a couple opportunities for you! Good luck!!!

I was also cut after the 2nd round of formal recruitment my sophomore year, but now I'm a founding sister of a great organization! Don't give up. If it's meant to be, then it will

bid day

well its bid day at my school today.
i met one of my friends from my rho chi group on my way to class this morning she told me which houses she preffed, one of them was my top house, and then she told me she didnt even want to go to that one at all but went because she had to, so that sorta bummed me out, i would have loved to have been there, and she could have cared less! the other house was one i really liked as well, and all of her roommates are in this house but it wasnt her top houses
since it is bid day that means COB could be starting soon, which is good for me!
i have a question about COB and i know its different at every school, but if you COB in the fall do you join that pledge class or do you wait until the next one? some chapters have initiation next month, and some not until January so i was just wondering how that might work and what about if you did COB in the spring is there a separate initiation or do you wait until the fall?

I know how you feel. After I got cut from final parties, it was really hard helping all my friends get ready for their finals when they didn't care less. A lot of girls were like, "I don't really want to get in, but I'm going to go anyways just because". It hurt because I would have given my right boob just to go. Blah. But it all works out, in one strange way or another.

I'm sorry to hear you were dropped from recruitment.

COB is different for every school and can vary for different chapters within the same school. A chapter that did not meet quota during FR, or that met quota but is not at total, can start COB immediately after bid day if they wish. If they do so, they may incorporate their new members from COB into the new member class from FR, or start a second new member class within the same semester, depending on timing. Or, they may wait until spring for COB. If you're offered a bid, you can discuss timing with the recruitment chair or new member educator.

Good luck with COB.

I'm so sorry about your news. Don't let it get you down though! I was cut the night before pref night from my double legacy which I really wanted and was heartbroken...then on pref night I went to my chapters house and I just knew it was God's way of taking care of me, I ended up exactly where I needed to be. Everything happens for a reason no matter what it is that happens. Don't let this get you down. COBing could be God's way of picking out exactly what house you are suppose to be at if you are even supposed to be greek at all! It's not for everyone!!! Don't let it get you down at all and remember...keep smiling!!!!

well I'd like to thank you all so much for your words of encouragement. So far no one has contacted me about COB, my Rho Chi said I would be put on the list but I think nearly every chapter made quota. I e-mailed the Panhellenic VP of Membership well over a week ago about COB but she hasn't gotten back to me. So for now I'm just waiting and hoping since I don't know what else I can do. I'll let you all know if anything else happens!

Keep your eyes open for COB flyers. Also, if you know anyone in the chapters (new members or initiated members) ask if they're aware of any COB events. Quota was high this year but some chapters missed it by only a few girls. Keep your head up!

Quota doesn't really matter for COB. At most schools, the chapters can COB to total.

a little update...

so here is a quick little update on what has been going on with me, two chapters did have informal recruitment this quarter at my school, but they were the two chapters that i cut after the first night of formal recruitment and i still didn't see myself fitting in with either of these chapters for many different reasons, so i am still waiting.
next quarter i believe that there will be more chapters doing informal since there are many girls graduating this quarter, so hopefully soon something will work out!
