Maybe NBC is trying to become credible again?
If they want to be credible, stop promoting political books! Period.
Totally makes no sense.

ESPECIALLY books by Kitty Kelley. I mean, come on, the woman is a tabloid writer, at best. Her past books have been trashy, and I'm guessing this one is as well.

Aaron Brown (is that his name? -- Don't watch CNN much) pretty well took her apart last night, too, albeit in a fairly polite way which seems to be his style.

It's all in the eye of the beholder. The conservative members of Congress decry PBS as being liberal. In fact, they have basically cut all government support -- which is why we have to live through all of these damned pledge drives.
Newt Gingrich led the charge to "zero out" Federal support for NPR and PBS.
I posted this in another thread, but I think it's important food for thought. It's not a new idea. We talked about it when I was in college. It seems to be much more strident, though, in this election year.
"The more people believe passionately in an issue, the less they want to see anything critical about it in a paper. People want to see only the justification of the conclusion they've already reached. I think my highest concern as a journalist is not to become a propagandist, and so I get an almost mischievous delight in going against the grain."

I don't like it when people say that PBS or the BBC are unbiased. They are strongly biased - especially about a topic I care about dearly. This is about as empty as statements about Fox.
I have yet to see any type of journalism that isn't biased, and I read and watch a lot.

Exactly. It's unavoidable, human nature being what it is. Of course, some journalism is more biased than others.
And to say that a particular media outlet is biased is not the same as saying "unreliable" or "not deservedly respected." The tricks, it seems to me, are to recognize the bias ("consider the source" if you will) and to read/watch/listen to a variety of sources to try to get a more complete picture.

I don't recall your study 100%, but wasn't PBS one of the lesser biased sources of news along with Fox?

i think mystic you make a good point. and that's what i do. i read as many papers as i can and then go home to watch everything from the daily show to hardball. but the problem is that with many of these outlets, the same stuff (ie., swiftboats and kitty kelley) is being covered and the same extremist heads are talking. you always have the extreme Dem against the extreme Repub, not listening to each other and trying to out-quip each other.
it can be hard for the average person to decipher.

and i still don't see how fox is not biased. any media outlet that has the american flag flying high behind the heads of its anchors and is shoving the whole idea of patriotism (ie., iraq bad, bush and goonies good) is hardly bringing an objective perspective to the situation....
just my .20 cents.

Did you read the study or did you just decide you wanted to donate 20 cents? (By the way .20 cents would mean you took a penny and ripped it into 5 pieces )

Yeah... how is a dictator that gasses his own people a bad guy? I don't get it either.
And the American flag is biased... ookay.
No one said Fox was not biased. Just less biased. When was the last time you heard Fox news rolling out propaganda for their chosen party without checking to see its accuracy? (a la CBS)

well its the itching ears syndrome..people will believe what they want to believe..i think thats what the bottom line is. anyone who can't recognize the liberal BS that has saturated the media for years before FOX news...just doesn't want to see the truth. FOX does add balance to whats out there..and a lot of liberals hate it. HOWEVER, I do believe that although FOX has a conservative slant, that they do make an effort to show both sides of an issue...even if they disagree...can't really say the same for other media outlets...

Dan Rather grasping at straws...
THIS IS SAD! Rather questioned an 80 year old woman who claims to know the feelings of the now deceased Lt. Col. Killian! I can't believe how unbelievably silly this has gotten. GWB has said that Kerry's service was more honorable than his own because he was in harms way and he wasn't. What more does the left want? SO WHAT if GWB received preferential treatment re: his guard service! They are trying so hard to tear GWB down..and I don't think any of its working...
"In the interview, Ms. Knox states that she does not believe the memos are genuine. However, she confirms that the content of the memos does reflect the feelings of Lt. Col. Killian at the time and accurately portrays events that were taking place in connection with then-Lt. Bush's Texas Air National Guard service."

How would Ms. Knox even recall something like that? It was someone who was a subordinate to her husband about 30 years ago. Does she remember the names and circumstances surrounding every pilot that her husband commanded? Trotting her out accomplishes nothing.
