I think Kappa Alpha Theta is pretty much universally known as "Theta." The only other nickname I know of is KAT, which we use in a few of our songs, but it's more just to make the rhyme scheme work

On my campus Phi Mu Alphas are sometimes called Phi Mus, probably because our students aren't that knowledgeable about other Greek organizations. I would guess that most people don't even know that there's a sorority called Phi Mu. In general if we're not just calling them Phi Mu Alphas or PMAs, we call them the "Phi Mu boys" though, so I guess the distinction is made in that way.

Well I guess it would depend on the campus really. We have Phi Mu here.

I was in a hurry one day on GC, but posting some Phi Mu Alpha news. And I wrote "yay for phi mu boys".... yea, I got my butt tore for that by one of the brothers. The response was, "do you think a 6'3 guy wears pink and has cute lil' lion decor in his room?" So now it is always.......Phi Mu Alpha or of course Sinfonians.

In my chapter we say Alpha Tau's. But Tau's is pretty well known...I know many chapters use it.

Also, Theta Chi sometimes is known as OX, at least at my school. Sigma Alpha Epsilon is SAE.....

Phi Sigma Sigma- Phi Sig
Alpha Delta Pi- ADPi
Gamma Phi Beta- Gamma Phi
Phi Alpha Epsilon (local)- FAE or Phi Alpha

I rather like using Alpha Xi instead of AXiD, but I'm just not in the habit of doing so.

Sister Havana, with the APO thing, did they want you to use AFO instead or something? PSP had a big debate over our listserv a while ago, whether we were "PSP" or "FSP". You can tell where I stand on that. Does anyone use F as an abbreviation for Phi? I think it looks silly, for some reason.
I violently hate fuzzies ... I can't stand that at all!!! I am glad no one down here refers to us like that

We called PHi Sigma Sigma AND Phi Sigma Kappa both Phi Sig. It got so confusing, heh. I'd often have to ask, the boys or the girls

Phi Mu doesn't really have a nickname. Sometime's you hear the joke Phi Mooo--(sorta a negative one like Chi Ho) But we actually refer to ourselves as Moo's sometimes. Like we say "I'm going by the Moo house." or "She's a moo"

I've never actually met a sister from a chapter that went by "Fuzzies." Ick. I hate it! I always thought that was just some nickname from the 50s that stuck...I dunno. I didn't think they were serious when I learned that that was a nickname.

I always say Alpha Xi, it's easier than saying AZD and sounds better. Although I have had a few people confuse me saying Alpha Xi with Alpha Phi. I don't know why.

ETA: At my undergraduate school we had:

Alpha Chi Omega: Alpha Chi's
Alpha Gamma Delta: Alpha Gam's
Delta Zeta: DZ's
Phi Mu: Phi Mu's
Zeta Tau Alpha: Zeta

For the boys:

Pi Kappa Alpha: Pikes
Pi Kappa Phi: Pi Kapps
Sigma Phi Epsilon: Sig Eps
Kappa Alpha Order: KA's
Theta Xi: Theta Xi's
Sigma Nu: Sigma Nu's
Sigma Chi: Sigma Chi's
Pi Lambda Phi: Pi Lam's
Lambda Chi Alpha: Lambda Chi's
Delta Sigma Phi: Delta Sig's
Tau Kappa Epsilon: Teke's
Delta Chi: Delta Chi's, DChi's
Kappa Sigma: Kappa Sig's

We're Phi Chi. People call us - you guessed it - Phi Chi.

Except for the occasional smarta@# who thinks calling us Fee Chee is hilarious.

OK then, do you (or anyone else) know where "fuzzies" actually came from? The only idea we ever had was from saying "Alpha Xi" really fast: "Al...pha-xi" and the 2nd two syllables sound like "fuzzie". Is that where it came from?

AXiD670 - If you ever head up to Ohio, I know it's common there. The girls from chapters in Ohio are the ones I always hear saying it.

We are trying to call ourselves Sig Delts more and more so that people use that instead of SDT because of the negative names that can come from that.
