it was supposed to be filmed in dallas (my hometown) a few years ago but i don't know what happened.

if they came down here to houston (my current residence), i'd love to see where they would party and work.

That is true. It would be worth a try. Just as it would be worth a try to tape the show in another foreign country. Not sure of which location would be good, though...

i'd recommend that they stay in the states. the further out the travel the more boring the season!!!!

and real world has taped outside the country, but they cant do it all the time.

why dont they go to wisconsin or south dakota, or even indiana? i speak for myself, but id live in any of these places for 4 months (then again, ive only known nyc, so i may be speaking out of stupidity). im up for something new...

maybe i should audition for the show...

Yeah the mayor met with MTV/the union reps all yesterday to try and get them to bring it to Philly as planned. I mean that is a lot of money and exposure that the city would be loosing if they don't come here, so they need to go head and get it together.

Mayor Plays Go-Between For Unions, Producers

PHILADELPHIA -- The city of Philadelphia confirmed that an agreement has been reached to keep MTV's reality show "The Real World" in the City of Brotherly Love.

"There is no better place to live, work or visit than the city of Philadelphia. Its history and strong neighborhoods make Philadelphia the real 'Real World,' and we look forward to this great production," said Philadelphia Mayor John Street, who was instrumental in brokering a deal that healed the rift between Bunim/Murray Productions and Philadelphia.

According to the sources, all of the union issues were resolved and compromises were made on both sides. The unions have agreed not to demonstrate and they've agreed "The Real World" house will have a blended work force. Some workers will be union and some will be nonunion. Philadelphia officials met Monday night with the representatives of Bunim/Murray Productions, the producers of the MTV show. The company pulled the show out of Philadelphia just three weeks before production was to begin because of a battle with unions.

"On behalf of everyone at Bunim-Murray Productions, MTV and 'The Real World,' I would like to thank Governor Rendell, Mayor Street, Congressman Brady, Michael Barnes from IATSE, John J. Dougherty from the IBEW, Pat Gillespie from the Building Trades Council, City Controller Saidel and everyone else involved in getting us to where we are today. I am pleased that season 15 of 'The Real World' will be produced here in Philadelphia, as originally planned," said Joey Carson, chief operating officer of Bunim-Murray Productions.

Street shuttled between two meetings Monday night. In one room were producers from the production company and in a second room were representatives of various Philadelphia unions, including John Dougherty of the Electrical Workers Union and Pat Gillespie of the Building Trades Council.

The governor of Pennsylvania was also involved in making peace.

"Recognizing the economic impact that 'The Real World' can have on our city and state, I am thrilled that the young people's voices were heard and we were all able to come together and be able to announce today that 'The Real World' and seven strangers have chosen Philadelphia to live," said Gov. Ed Rendell. The unions were also pleased with the decision.

"I'm happy that 'The Real World' is going to shine a spotlight on Philadelphia -- one of the best kept secrets in America. It's been a pleasure working out the details with the mayor and Joey Carson's team at Bunim-Murray Productions," said Dougherty, of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

"The Real World: Philadelphia" will premiere on MTV in the fall of 2004. The show is the longest-running reality series on television.

Why is that cities don't want the Real World to be tapped there? I don't understand what the big deal is. What reasons do they give for not wanting them to tape in their city?

I suspect negative publicity, plus the fact that many past Real Worlders have looked like hot-mess azzes, particularly those who make a career of being "reality TV celebrities," if there is such a thing.
RW was in San Diego, my hometown, and I think that a lot of people weren't too geeked about it. There's been backlash against the show for years (I used to watch it fairly regularly until the Seattle season).

It isn't that the union leaders didn't want the Real World coming to the city. They didn't want $8/ hour workers coming into the city. Real World was welcome in Phila as long as they paid the prevailing wage.

I remember watching one of the last episodes of a season where they showed snippets of people in the city protesting the show. I didn't understand it. I can't see where the negative publicity comes in. The show promotes local businesses by showing the name of just abut every place the cast goes into. When I watch the show and the cast members are acting a fool, I don't think of it as a reflection on the particular city because all of the cast members are from different cities. I wish they would film in Tampa. There is plenty of trouble for them to get into here.

We were posting at the same time. I definitely understand the union's stance. I was asking about the population of the city in general. On the show that I saw, citizens were like protesting across the street from the house and that kind of stuff. It just made me wonder.

Ditto, that is exactly how I feel. Why would I look down on the city just because the Real World people acted a complete and utter fool.
