France is a very homogenous country. When people immigrate they must change their name to a french sounding name. Ie. if my brother moved there he would have to change his name from James to Jaques. They are also overwhelmingly catholic. I think this is their way of keep catholicism as the dominant religion and for everyone to conform to their society.
I'm not saying it's right, but this is why I think they are doing it.

France has language laws which I guess would be the name thing. Maybe language laws shouldn't be there but then again they can read Molerre easier than we can read Shakespere.

69% of All French in favor, 29% opposed
Left 66% in favor, 33 opposed
Right 75% in favor, 24% opposed
Muslims 42% in favor, 53% opposed
Muslim women 49% in favor, 43% opposed

Funny how the women even support this and more will with time I'm sure. And no, Arya this isn't pandering to the extreme right.

Also how come nobody says anything when women in Arab countries are forced to wear veils, headscarfs, total coverings? It's OK for the government then to push that on everyone I guess?

I think all public displayings of religion should be outlawed.

If you let any religion take foothold in society then you become crazy like bin Laden. We don't want that. Death to all fanatics! And as it says in my sig, If there's one thing I can't stand, Its intolerance."
