Greek Teachers? - Page 3

Well she wasn't my teacher, but my principals wife went on all our choir tours with us and one time I was working at the mall after I was initiated, they came in and were asking about college and stuff and I mentioned that I joined a sorority. She asked with one and I told her that I am an ADPi. She got so excited. She started singing some rush song and pulled me into a hug. It was pretty odd at the time, but now that I look back on it I think it was also pretty sweet.
As for my other teachers, they never mentioned too much about their college experiences. Go figure huh? My drama teacher rushed when she was at Arizona State but didn't join and was actually shocked to find out that I was in a sorority. Most people just don't see me as being a 'sorority girl', as if there is a typical one, but there are stereotypes. Anways.

My high school psychology teacher was the first initiate into Pi Kappa Phi at the university I attend. He talked about fraternity life all the time during class. After listening to him talk about his experiences, I knew I wanted to go greek.

Lots of Greek prospective and active teachers... that's so awesome!

As for me, I have no clue if any of my former teachers were Greek, although I suspect a few of them may have been. I'll have to ask the next time I'm on one of my alma maters' campuses.

Like a lot of you, I also plan on having some little tidbits of greek life in my classroom, whether or not I teach elementary or secondary school... not sure yet. If I end up at a middle or high school, I'll definitely have some stuff around the room because I'd love to let people know the positive side of Greek life at an early age.

On a side note, a male teacher I adored in middle school (and secretly hoped was Greek, but not so much anymore) was just found to have hidden some sexual molestation charges (with male students) for over 10 years and is most likely going to end up in prison... that freaked me out. It's been about a week since i've known and I cannot get over it... you never know people as well as you think...

I recently switched my major from secondary ed to communications, but I had plans to have DG stuff in my classrooms......I don't ever remember having any greek teachers before (but i could have very well missed it) but this summer I worked at a girl scout camp and I wore my bid day shirt, my letter sweat shirts and my lavilere a lot and had a number of questions...I worked with a Sigma Kappa and Kappa Delta that wore a ton more letters than me, so I'm sure they were noticed! Who knows, maybe we've got future girls that will write on this board about how we influenced them to go Greek!

It turned out that one of my favorite teachers in high school was one of the founding sisters of my chapter of Phi Mu. She never mentioned it in class, but I saw her at the mall after I had been initiated and she ran up to me and exclaimed, "We're sisters!"

I'm doing my student teaching now, and I haven't worn my letters or badge yet. I wasn't sure whether I was going to, but today my cooperating teacher mentioned something about one of her sorority sisters. I asked which sorority she was in, and it turns out that she's an AOP from Minnesota. I'm going to wear my Key tomorrow!

Well... I was exposed to the whole greek system by my high school journalism teacher. She always talked about starting an online newsletter for her chapter, and even mentioned receiving a "really big" award from nationals for her service. I remember having to ask her several times what sorority she was in, because the letters were do foreign to me (not to mention I didn't understand the concept of a sorority!) I even remember going to a conference with her for the weekend, and she had their luggage tag!!! haha...

She was actually the one who pushed me to go to U. of Florida, even though my parents wanted me to stay home. Then when I got to UF... she was the only one to push me to go greek--- or at least rush and decide for myself. (i ended up rushing sophomore year) She is the one and only reason I was so informed during rush--- my Pi Chi's can't even compare to her! She even introduced me to this website!!! lol.... She also told me about other greek teachers at my high school--- who never once mentioned they were greek.

Well... my (former) high school journalism teacher is a Kappa Delta-- and you all know her as "kdonline." We obviously still keep in touch!!! (I keep her updated on the Florida Greek community!)

The funny thing is that even though I didn't become a KD... one of her favorite ladies from her high school (that she eventually taught at later on...) was a Kappa!

Biology Teacher and Guid. Coun.: Alpha Kappa Alpha

Trig Teacher and Physics Teacher: Alpha Phi Apha

Home Ec: Zeta Phi Beta

Literature Teacher : Delta Sigma Theta

Data Coordinator: Sigma Gamma Rho

That is all I can remember off the top of my head

my lit professor from last semester is a pi beta phi. she kept making references to it during our classes and i was just smiling cause i knew what she meant!!

Each spring, there was a presentation given by our Alumnae Panhellenic to introduce women to Greek Life, and let us know the deal with our recommendations, along with rush tips that I've heard on GC. Usually, each of the Greek teachers would wear the NPC "Go Greek!" buttons that day, and attend the presentation.

HeadMASTER?? Shouldn't that be headMISTRESS? I've never heard of a school that referred to female heads as Headmasters. Oh well, different strokes for different folks.

I didn't have any teachers that were openly Greek (we Canadians aren't always open about it, at least to people who aren't close friends), but I do know a woman who is an elementary school teacher that is an Alpha Phi from U of T.

My 7th and 8th grade Literature teacher was Greek. She never said which GLO. But, she recited the Greek alphabet once in class and wore an awful lot of black and gold. (I secretly think she's a Theta.) She went to U of Missouri.

I remember thinking she wasn't ANYTHING like the stereotypical sorority girl. It was the first time I thought I'd like to join a sorority.

In high school, it was well-known that our principle & junior english teacher were active members of Alpha Phi Alpha. My english professor this semester was a Alpha Xi Delta.

Yes we have. Gamma Lambda chapter closed in the 70s. My cousin's boyfriend's mother is from that chapter, and she helped colonize ours.
