On the Kansas side of KC:
Hy-vee
Price Chopper
Super Target
Super Walmart
Hen House
Sam's Club
Costco
Aldi

It doesn't seem like we have that many different chains, and all these except for Aldi, sams ans costoco, have like 15 locations pretty close together.

In Lincoln I don't really grocery shop that much, as most of the stuff I need I can get in the food section of a normal target and ususally do.
But there's:
Super Savers
Hy Vee
and Walmart Super Center as well.

Here in Tallahassee we have:

Publix
Winn Dixie
Albertsons
Super Walmart
Sams
Harvey's (The absolute TRASHIEST establishment I have ever been in, followed closely by Big Lots of Monroe, NC)

I prefer Winn Dixie cause I know folks that work there and they hook me up, lol. Around here, the Publix close to the campuses is known as "Club Publix" cause poeple go there more to hook up than to shop.

Super Wal Mart rules because it is cheap as hayle and open 24 hours.

Sam's rules when I need 36 packs of Kraft mac and cheese, lol.

el paso has walmart and sam's club, big 8 (a "home-owned" place since 1937 that grew to 15 stores now), albertsons, blue sage, food basket, quality food mart, sun harvest, and tons of mom and pop stores.

Ah man, where do I start?

They destroy local business. When a Wal-Mart comes in, they lower their prices to the point where mom and pop businesses can't compete. When the stores close down, they raise their prices.

Wal-Mart is one of the richest companies, if not THE richest. Why are their employees paid so poorly? I'm talking just at or below minimum. They are one of the few companies that can actually afford to hire at a living wage--yet their employees can often qualify for AFDC.

They don't carry the things I normally buy.

There's more, but I think this is probably enough for now.

Librasoul this is very true about walmart. I was just reading about them in Fortune today. However, in Dartmouth, MA it is where all the people from my school shop for dvds, snacks, elctronics, et al. I wouldn buy clothes from wal mart though.
