My dad's side of the family is Irish, but we don't know exactly when they came over. His family is compiling a family tree and I haven't been updated on it in a while.
My mom's side... well, no one's made an effort to preserve our family history. I do know that I am part Cherokee. There has been a dispute on the origin of the surname Aiken and I have no clue where the Henry's came from.

hmmm like enlightenment I have no clue about my ancestry. My mother's family is from Alabama. Mother's side has english, african, and native american ancestry. My dad's family is from South Carolina. If you ever heard of the low country people "gullah" and "geechee" my dad is descendents from them.

I've heard of low-country people. My mom is also from South Carolina. My ancestry is primarily African; where I don't know. My maternal great-grandfather was French.

I'm VERY into genealogy, so I'm just loving this thread!
On my dad's side, I'm third generation English & Swiss, from Sussex & Bern.
On my mom's side, I've been able to prove 9 generations in America, but there's one link that I have to prove before I can do a WOO HOO!!! Connected to the Mayflower!
May I add my 2¢?
Everyone should be proud of their heritage BUT! No one's is better than anyone else's!

I agree completely. My Dad's side may have pilgrims, but on my Mom's side we had an ancestor from S.Carolina fry in the electric chair. Everyone has their skeletons.

I think I'm fifth or sixth generation American, but I can't remember for sure.
On my mom's side, I'm almost entirely Czechoslovakian with a little Hungarian thrown in.
On my dad's side, I'm half English and one-quarter each of Irish and German.
Not a whole lot exciting going on in my family. We even share the relatively rare last name of a famous musician but we're not related to him . . . boring.

My grandparents came to Argentina from Eastern Europe. My parents were both born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina. They both came to America, met, married and had me!

It's great to see where everyone's ancestors are from. It's great to see so many different places where people are from

Czech or Slovak? (My boyfriend's parents are Czech, and I have been reminded over and over in painful detail that there have been no Czechoslovakians since 1992 )
I know token Czech phrases: Pivo prosim! being the most important! :P
Is the musician from your mom's or dad's side - if it's on your mom's I have it down to 3 last names. I won't write them here, since you probably don't like having your last name publish a la internet.

my mom's great-grandfather was straight up German.....last name schmidt....changed his name to smith, though, b/c he wanted to be completely Americanized and his son did not even speak any German as a first generation American. when her grandfather and grandmother got married, he was a "schmidt" turned "smith" marrying another smith. non-related, though yes in ky....just an odd coincidence.
my dad's family is british and french from back in the day.....mom's family is again, german, and scottish....

It's far too complicated and I am lazy so here's the just of it. My non-north American relatives came from England, Ireland, Scotland, Sweden, and Finland. My grandmother is bi-racial. Her father was black. We don't know his ancestry because he and his wife abandoned my grandmother when she was three. My grandmother was adopted (this grandmother was born in England in 1914).
