Okay guys, thanks for all the good wishes. I'm so sorry that I didn't respond sooner, but there was a flurry of activity, involivng visiting parents, grandparents, etc. I passed out at 9:30 last night after all the fun!
Here's how it happened (warning LONG POST)
Last week, Josh asked if I wanted to go to La Provence, an awesome little French restaurant around here. They have this $14.99 special before 7 PM - a 4 course dinner. So we decided we were going to do that.
I studied all day Saturday. When it came time to get ready, I couldn't find anything to wear. I was tired of wearing the spiffy polka-dot dress I wore to Allison's rehearsal dinner. I was going to wear this lavendar dress that's got a slightly noticable stain on the back. Mom, thankfully, steered me into wearing my black halter top dress.
See, Mom knew about it all. Josh took her out to lunch on Thursday (he told me he was out with his mom!) to ask her blessing. So, she knew that it was coming on Saturday.
So, I decide on the black dress, and she suggests that I wear the necklace and earrings I got as a bridesmaid's gift- a 3 stone CZ necklace and CZ earings. She said "You're going to be all sparkly!" It was her own private joke.
We went to 5pm Mass on Saturday night, and Josh said he'd pick me up right afterwards. We caught the bridge in Madisonville - I pulled out my phone to call him to let him know and I saw THREE missed calls - so I called him back and said "I Know we're running late - I'm totally ready - I can just jump into your car when we get home." Josh says "No...um...I need to go to the bahtroom...I'm still on HWY 22...I'm not to your house yet" I don't think anything of it. We get home and mom I go inside.
When Josh shows up, he's wearing a suit and carrying a boquet of a dozen long-stemmed red roses. Odd, I think. I ask why he's dressed up and he says that he just felt like it and that he just wanted to bring me the flowers. I run to show mom, who's sitting on the sofa. She helps me put the flowers in a vase, but I'm all worried about making dinner. Josh says not to worry, that he pushed back the reservations a few minutes.
So, he gets my mom to go in her room for something. She says she needs to go back into her room. Once again, I think its odd. I'm starting to get suspcicious. Josh leads me over to the living room - he says he was trying to get me to the couch to sit down, but we ended up behind the sofa table.
He says "tonight is special because we've been together for the last 5 years, 7 months and 5 days. And every day has been the best day of my life." And he said some other stuff, of which I don't really remember, because I know what is up! And then he got down on one knee and pulled out the ring. I started saying "YES! YES!" I think I actually accepted before he fully asked - oops!
So, I go to run and show my mom, who tells me she's known all along.
I find out that there was a lot of creative misdirection on the Josh's part. Turns out he didn't go to a birthday party in Wiggins, MS last weekend. He went to Pensacola to pick up the ring from Dave. Apparently he had it shipped to Dave's house to avoid sales tax. So, Dave knew.
So, everyone in my family knew before me. But it was still an aswesome night! Thanks everyone for all the good wishes!
