maybe if you guys understood our skills and the abilities of our car's you could put this all into perspective.

a honda civic is by no means now and never will be a sports car. A eclipse, talon, supra, etc they are. they are made to run at high speeds, safely. the difference? ask any phsyics student.

is street racing bad? sure, why not. 4 out of 5 of my races were at night with no traffic. that lone race was about 3pm in the evening.

i am just here to help change the media's (and i include this forum since it is a channel of media) view on street racers and "ricers".

there are much worse things that you people can complain about rather than us. drugs, alcohol, gangs, thugs, etc.

target something that has a higher body count next time. more people die from alcohol/drug realated car accidents than just plain street racing.

once again, i am here to dispell rumors, if i had started an anti-greek post on a forum, a few of you would have eventually shown up to defend yourselves.

I have a lot of friends who take pride in their cars and what they do to them, and they try to defend their craft, but I'll never understand it...and that's okay because I really could give a isht. As dzrose said, this thread wasn't intended to insult or offend those who modify their cars. People placing importance on their cars rather than the safety of others is the problem!

I bought my Civic for the sole purpose of having a car. It was economical and it saves on gas. I see Supras and Eclipses every day and I'm honestly not impressed with them. Based on what I witness here, it's as if these boys over here like to show off their cars in order to make up for the areas where they're lacking isht.

I only see it as bad when it puts innocent people at risk. If you want to take that chance to risk your own lives, that's your business...but I really don't like it when you racers make it ours. If you're so proud of your cars, why not take it to the tracks? I know a bunch of car enthusiasts and experts who encourage racing on the tracks. I can recall times when I've been at red lights with idiots who purposely rev up their engines as an indication that they want to "race"...yeah...so they can show off fast they go? Please...I think I'll pass.

My views on street racing have been based on first hand accounts, thanks. But it's commendable that you're defending something you're obviously very passionate about.

Actually, we do. If you take a look at some of the topics here in Chit Chat and in the other forums, you'll see that we target other areas of discussion. We are VERY aware of the problems affecting Greek Life and we don't ignore it! We know that we have a bunch of bad apples and trust me when I say that we make every effort to correct the problem.

Probably...because Greek life is something that I am proud of. However, I probably won't resort to petty name calling, insults, and I probably won't question their intelligence just because I don't agree with what you say.

I don't think DSS started this thread to offend anyone. We all rant about something from now and then, and this was something he felt strongly about.

Then there's that old GC cliche--"We are all entitled to our own opinions...and we can agree to disagree!" With that said, all you car enthusiasts, I hope you choose to at least respect that! If you wish to continue this discussion, fine. Just leave the insults and inflammatory posts at the door, please. Doomo arigato.

That being said, don't get angry at us and don't blame us for feeling the way we do. Blame those individuals who give you all a bad name!

Please understand I don't think one person has said they have a problem with racing. It's simply ILLEGAL STREET RACING that we have a problem with. And from what I gather you're not into that. You seem like a fairly responsible individual who would know better than to endanger people without their consent.

Guess what! People haven't been racing since before fraternities and sororities started! So if you are going to come onto a GREEK site to defend racing you need to show some respect. We did not go to your site to bash racing. A member of your site heard about it and posted a link.

And let's remember this thread wasn't started out of the blue. Another person died this week. Stan lost a friend this summer because of it. And it wasn't discussing pansy asses that race at FIVE MILES over the speed limit. The kind of racing that goes on in San Diego is serious and dangerous! The roads the racers use, quite frankly, are pretty hairy if you're doing the speed limit!

Now don't get me wrong. If you want to supe up your car, go for it. If you want to race, go to a track. I'd love to supe up my Accord. But my car would get jacked so fast! I used to drive 85mph when it was raining and I felt I should slow down "just to be safe". I would typically drive 100. Yes I've been to 115. Have I crashed? NO Have I been ticketed? NO I realized how crazy I was when I'd hear about "high speed pursuits" that weren't even close to my speed. And I realized how deadly the slightest mistake could be!

I see where Stan is coming from because I too live in San Diego and I witness street racing a lot when I'm back home. My cousins are part of a street racing crew and I'm not ignorant to the scene. Whenever I chill with my cousin and his friends they always talk about what they'll do next or which turbo upgrade they'll get and how they'll install it. After years of being exposed to the mod scene I thought Fast and the Furious made the car mod scene too trendy and mainstream. It made me pissed to see a bunch of fake teeny bop kids talk about what they'll do to their crappy hand me down from parents car. F&F simply made something with potential danger even more dangerous because it motivated dumb kids. I'm sure other car enthusiasts agree about this.

Don't get me wrong that I support illegal street racing but I don't mind seeing a nice mod every now and then. I go to the University of Civics and Integras and most of the mods I've seen are basically the same.

Anywho as a Greek and a car enthusiast I've seen both stereotypes thrown out on this thread. As a Greek I wanted to make clear how F&F basically was made to wow the teeny bops. I also want to say that the "get drunk and party" stereotype is most of the time wrong. Even though it does exist it more likely exists along the same times as if a bunch of friends got together to party.

Just wanted to increase the peace around here.

They're trying to pass a law making it a misdemeanor to be a spectator at an illegal street race.

Post About time someone tries to stop this

Earlier this year, a street racer lost control of his car down Skyline Drive (for San Diegans, this is an incredibly hilly street) and smashed into my sister's parked Lincoln Town Car, which had belonged to my dad.

If not for the big car, that jerk could have come through my family's house and caused major damage. Or our 11-year-old pit bull would have had a nice snack.

A man who was involved in a race that caused an innocent man's death here in San Diego will face a significant amount of jail time.

Last year, some MORON was participating in an illegal street race spun out of control and hit an innocent driver, who died.

So, once again, some innocent person has died, and the punk involved will pay. I'd like to see you justify this activity again.

So, whichever Alpha Xi told her ex about the this thread, tell him again, I wanna see him "solicit" here until he "gets his point across", which he didn't do the first time.

I'm really sorry to hear that an innocent person died because of a person's foolishness.

I'm all about debate and that's fine...but just make sure that if those people come back it doesn't go back to the name calling and insults like it was before. If that's going to be the case, make sure it stays off GC, thanks.

Hey, if they want to have a mature and adult discussion over how stupid and unproductive illegal street racing is, I'm all for it

Ok that was me. But just to clarify, he wasn't one of them that were on here-just some guys who apparently feel they have to defend their cars tooth and nail. I really don't feel like initiating another Greek vs. Car war. I felt bad the last time. Anyway, I don't even think he frequents that board anymore. It sucks to hear about the innocent people that were hurt-some people are either that stupid or will never learn.
