When she first came out, I had the hardest time trying to figure out what Jill Scott was saying in the chorus in "Long Walk". It took my rewinding that particular part of the CD like over 10 times in order to figure out what the words were. It got to the point where my daughter said, "Ma, do we have to listen to this song AGAIN?" Well, guess what folks, I've got it NOW (and so does my daughter)!!

LMAO. Actually, I think that video is a throwback to "Embrya", his second CD. If you look inside the cd jacket, you will see pics of him floating in water. Its a sort of Maxwellian symbolism.

Jay-Z

OK..

What was Jay-Z talking about when he said:

'H to the Izzo........blah, blah blah'

I've heard some things...

Thanks...by the way, I have no idea what he was talking about or what he was saying, but I was jamming to it!

He calls himself Hova or Jay-hova so the lyric is
H to the izz-O V to the izz-A. (H O V A), his nickname.

Thumbs down I know someone who....

Used to sing the hook to Next's song, "Too Close" wrong. She used to say, "Baby no more crying..." When my mother told me that, I CTFU for hours just imagining her friend sing that! The words are, "Baby when we're grinding..." I still can't see how you can go from grinding to crying. But on another note, vanda, can you PLEASE PM me with the words to the hook to The Roots' song, "You Got Me?" I still can't figure out the words for the life of me!!!

Let me see if I have this rationale right...lol

Jay-Z had coined himself J-Hova (Jehova) because it is common up North for males who have established some sort of camaraderie to refer to themselves as 'God' (much the way we here in the South say 'dawg'). i.e. "What's up dawg?" and "What's up God?"

I think it also stems from the fact that Jigga thinks he is the rap god in NY. I beg to differ as there are a plethora of better MC's in NY! But I digress....

As for more songs where I don't know the lyrics...Whoever said Caribbean Queen, YES!!! It took me for-like-ever!
I thought he was saying "Now if you're me....now we're sharing the same dream" I am off, lol.

I thought of another one yesterday. I could not for the life of me figure out what Blu Cantrell was saying in Hit Em Up the first time I heard it.
Here was my interpretation of the first verse:
Well I was swingin,
mumblemumble in the the swing a just a swingin'...

LOL @ me being an idiot!!!

Here is what she says in the first verse:
While he was schemin'
I was leanin' in the Beamer just steamin'
Can't believe that I caught my man cheatin'
So I found another way to
Make him pay for it all....

Red face what in the world?

I don't think I could go that route. Ebonics and slang are fine (when appropriate), but using God, Lord, Jesus, Christ, Jesus Christ as slang...I could not do it.

That's going a little too far.

this post is hillarious....you all are killing me...

Okay....Can someone tell me what that sister is saying in Jay-Z's "Can I Get A.."

This is what I hear:
"I like a lotta pravada, alize and vodka, late night, candle light, then I get a something...blah-blah-blah-blah-blah-blah-blah-blah-blah-, something, something, something- gotta juice, then I gotcha, in caboose......???"

...It's a family thing, because my mom is notorious for creating her own words to songs.

For example-Prince & Sheena Easton "u Got the Look"
Mom says: " U got the look- u got the hook, u sho-nuff do be cooking in my book, your eyes are sparkling, your face is clean, u got the look, u sure look keen, u got the look......" -well you get the point.
