At UCF, I found that there were 'healthy' rivalries between the sororities. The Greek System here is awesome and we usually back each other up. Of course there would be Homecoming and Greek Weeks where we'd compete against each other. But it's all in fun!!

Hey ThetaSigmaAXO,
I think that when it comes to our school the rivalry between the three sororities can be heavy (ie: football, Derby Days ) just because everyone knows eachother. But I also think that for that fact it makes it harder to stereotype a sorority based on one or two people. That's what I like about being in a smaller greek system; it is much more personal.
Thanks for the congrats! Go DG and Go AXO!!

Smile rivarly?

i'm just gonna have to say that there is some type of rivarly here at my school..im' not saying that there is lots of hate but unfortunately there is some major tension amongst the fraternities and sororities...i'm just hoping that things get better and that we all can just freaking suck it up!!!!!!!! and be nice to eat other without being all 2-FACED....but whatever i guess that's how it is.....hope it gets better someday...= )

I would say that my school has a bunch of rivalries. B/W fraternities and sororities and towards one another. Some good, some not so good.

Not so much a Greek Unity kind of campus. They are working at it, but when it comes down to it there is a little harsh feelings between groups. Mostly rumors and such.

I have to say that Chi O is a strong group that reaches out and that says a lot about them! I think other groups have a lot of internal issues and really focus on their chapter and not so much others.

It will change, it will just take time. I think a lot of tension is over the NPC resolution.

Otherwise, I think healthy rivalry is a good thing!

Unhappy

When I went to school, there were 4 sororities (DZ, ASA, Phi Mu, Phi Sig) And there were like 14 fraternities. Between the sororities, there was always this tension, like who was freinds with which fraternity, who were the "pretty" girls, who were the "cool" girls, all that nonsense.
The rivalries between some of the fraternities was pretty bad too. Some of them got along, but when they didn't, there was fighting, vandalism, and the like involved, which eventually aided some houses in getting yanked off campus
Now, the same 4 sororities are there, but there are only 8 or 9 fraternities, half of which are new to campus in the last 3 or 4 years. There are still some tensions, but I noticed that as more houses were made to leave, people started to realize that they needed to work together and be tolerant in order to preserve Greek life.

The biggest rivalries at my school are over intramural sports, hands down. We're over half-way through softball season right now, actually only one game away from the playoffs. Our last game is against ADPi, our biggest rivals. The other night at our game against Tri Delt, some of the ADPis came to "scout" and were even writing down notes, and were trying to get our coaches to give them helpful hints! We're last years IM champs, and take our sports very seriously, but that's a little ridiculous...I guess we'll have to show them on Tuesday! Our rivalries are good-natured though, we don't have a habit of pranks and/or kleptomania!

I'm proud to say that at the University of Hawaii, we haven't really experienced any rivalries. Our greek system is very very small, but from the beginning everyone has been very supportive for one another.

For national/international greeks back in the day, there were 3 fraternities (Betas, SigEps, and TKEs) and 1 sorority (us... the Alpha Gams.) We did lots together... sometimes in pairs (TKE/AGD mixer or SPE/AGD formal)... but most of the time all together (all greek tailgate, all greek picnic, etc.) It was really nice.

Sadly, the very very small greek system has become even smaller with the loss of the Betas and SigEps because they were unable to keep their membership up. However, the Alpha Gams have decided to help bring the "boys" back. The alums are getting in touch with the Beta and SigEp alums in town to help them reorganize, and the collegians are trying to get the TKEs together, so we can have an improved greek presents during recruitment this fall.

See? One happy family!

Friendly competition can be nice... but support and a united effort are much nicer

Aloha,
Mai Ly

some of our rivalries here aren't too friendly. Most are based on the fact that other organisations exist. There is a new fraternity coming on campous, and I think its needed. Yeah we just got on as a new chapter, and we need newer orgs that do things the way the were suposed to be. ONly 6% total here is greek, it is pathetic. Mostly because of drunken fraternity fights. But we are new because thats not we want and I guess the newer guys (Sigma Pi) are colonizing because it not what they want either. I'm glad we're the first of the new wave, not the last of the old.

The fraternities on my campus have friendly rivalries. The nasty rivalry is usually between whatever fraternity is having a party that night and the football team. They usually fight over breeding rights.

In general, at least with the sororities here, there aren't any big rivalries. I have many aqquantainces who are in other sororities, and my roommate is in another sorority as well (although we don't always get along, but that has nothing to do with sorority stuff). My big told me though that one year we had a rivalry with DZ, because my big's ex-best friend was a DZ and tried to say she had committed a rush infraction which was entirely not true. As far as sports go, we have a rivalry with ADII because they seem to win most of the intramural games. We (ZTA) get really competitive with everyone during fraternity days so we can win the spirit awards (which we usually do). There are other minor things, but nothing that any whole chapter feels strongly about.

In the fraternities, KA & SAE here (to put it in better words) seem to passionately dislike all the other fraternities. Sigma Chi & Beta have a rivalry mainly b/c their houses are right next to one another and they are aways competing to have the best parties. Other than that, who knows?

I say friendly rivalries (i.e. sports, and sponsored competitions) are good, but other than that it can get messy if people let it go too far.

I was reminded of the guys in residene here (or at least a good number of them) that feel it ok tp pull pranks and do shit to one another and get upset when you dont see it as un and instead say to someonein authority, these guys need to grow up and leave me alone.

Maybe it's just me but a prank like stealing someone's charter is akin to me stealing yer wedding ring or your most valued article of clothing etc. While I'm not in a frat right now, doing something like that is just wrong.

I hope that the frat I join maybe does have (friendly) rivalries but that the people are mature and intelligent and much better than the guys in rez.

The ATOs and Betas have their houses next door to each other on my campus and they can't stand each other right now. They have taken each other to IFC J-Board a couple times in the past year for vandalism and such things.

at my school the sigma chi's have a cross in there front yard and everytime the paint it someone from another frat sets it on fire so they will have to paint it again.

ATO randomly lost the letters off there house. We don't know who took it but someone did. Doesn't matter though they just lost there house for not paying bills and rumor has it they lost their charter too.

Um Beta likes to through beer bottles at Theta Xi and FIJI and Phi Sig hate each other with a passion

KA losing house?

I've heard that KA might losethierhouse here because of underage drinking (15 year olds getting drunk at their house) and some of the members of the greel community here saidthey were outcasts here as well...

Here at CSU Stanislaus in Turlock California, The competition is not as fierce but there is still plenty..we currently have two NPC sororities which Im part of one of them, then we have about 6 local sororities, and im not too sure on the nbrs for the fraternaties, but we do have a sort of unspoken rivalry , but I don't think it is that bad but then again we are a small campus... I also think that it's natural to have rivalry because to a certain extent we do compete against each other, but sometimes some people take it too far and thats where it gets ugly.. I think it's fun to have some rivalry it's makes it funner, but there's also a really fine line that we all have to respect.
