Brian,
Thats very cool. You got the story right Thats awesome how they have the history on Miami's library website. Your right. They probably had no idea that we'd still be learning and talking about it 153 years later. I'm sure if they did know they'd get some good laughs from it but more importantly I think they'd be pretty proud. That we've carried on our tradition and legacy

I'm very familiar with the Snowball Rebellion! January 12 and 13, 1848. We had to learn about it during pledging, it was on one of our tests. Ever since joining a fraternity, my appreciation for history has shot up amazingly! Ironically, just last week I sat here on my computer reading a history of Miami University on their library website and there was a big part about the Snowball Rebellion. Kinda funny when you read it, they barracaded (sp?) the doors with huge snowballs a few nights, and each morning the janitor would come and have to find a way in. I remember reading something about how he had to break a window to get in one day. I bet when those students did that they never thought we'd be talking about it 153 years later

Kappa Sigma was founded on Dec 10, 1869, at UVA - the zeta chapter (designation for the founding chapter) still exists, and has consecutively for 131 years.
Our historical founding dates back to 1400 ad, at the University of Bologna in Bologna, Italy.

Hey Brian,
Thanks for the link. Most of that story jogs back memories of my pledge education but there are some details that I read that I never knew before. Thanks Its amazing how those of us that evolved from Old Miami My eight founders were definitely earnest and spirited young men. It sort of reminds me of the movie, Dead Poets Society, however not exactly. I have yet to see Oxford yet and I want to check it out sometime. Especially our HQ and the Beta Campanile.

Alpha Sigma Alpha was founded November 1901 at Longwood College, VA. We will be celebrating our centennial celebration this November! Yeah! ASA has been on the University of Northern Colorado campus since 1914.

ZTA, as already stated, was found in 1898 at Longwood College in Farmville, VA. We are one of the Farmville Four, along with KD, Tri-Sig, and Alpha Sigma Alpha. I haven't met any of the sisters from alpha chapter, but at a Jimmy Buffett concert, I met some Pi Kapps from Longwood. They told me alpha chapter was going strong, and that the rest of us Zetas would definitely be proud of them.
Pi Kappa Phi was founded here at the College of Charleston in 1904. I am friends with all the guys at alpha chapter. They were reorganized in 1999, and were down to 15 guys. But now, in the span of 3 formal rushes, they are up to 60, and are one of the leading fraternities on campus.

Just a point of information-Sigma Sigma Sigma does NOT refer to itself as Tri-Sig. It has something to do with some ...ahem...independent organization (in CA, I believe?) of homosexual women that refers to itself as such. If you know of anyone who still uses this name, please gently correct them on our behalf. Thanks!

Thank you! It is like nails on a chalkboard for me to hear my sorority called Tri Sig. Of course, I understand that not everyone knows why we don't want to be called that, so I don't get angry with anyone, but I do try to correct them.

Tau Kappa Epsilon was founded on a very very cold Tuesday night, January 10th, 1899 in Illinois-Wesleyan College. It's a young pup in the fraternity world, barely clocking in at 102 years of age.

Alpha Omicron Pi Fraternity was founded on January 2, 1897 at Barnard College of Columbia University. Our Alpha chapter is not active. AOII is the only NPC member not to utilize armorial bearings. Instead, we use the General Jacqueminot Rose. AOII also does not name its chapters alphabetically. It is up to each chapter to choose its own name and the meaning behind it. The AOII New Orleans Alumnae Chapter was founded in 1916. Happy 85th anniversary!

To the Sigma Sigma Sigma girls - sorry about the Tri Sig thing. I had NO idea! We don't have your sorority on my campus, and I don't personally know any sisters. So a thousand apologies. So what is y'all's nickname, then?
