My kids are younger than college age, but they would be impressed if someone had a popular YouTube channel. As long as the content is cute and not skanky and she is a decent PNM otherwise, I think it will give her a little bit of a boost. I could see someone like that being recruited as a future Vice President-Public Relations.

Looks like Ole Miss is changing to Sisterhood Day this year too -- but the description still sounds a lot like Skit Day (from the TriDelta site):
Round 3: Sisterhood Day (October 1 and 2) Previously called Skit, this high-energy round is so much fun! Each sorority presents an entertaining, exciting skit to embody the ideals and personality of their sorority. The dress of this round is a fun dress or skirt and top.
http://www.olemisstridelta.org/recruitment.html
***ETA: The explanation on the Ole Miss Panhellenic site, however, doesn't mention a skit (maybe ^this one didn't revise the description):
Round 3 Sisterhood Day (Thursday, October 1, 2015 & Friday, October 2, 2015)
Number Visited: Up to 5 sororities
What to Expect: These highly energetic parties provide an insight into their sisterhood. You’ll talk with members to gain a greater perspective of their sisterhood and how they celebrate their sorority.
What to wear: Dressy casual attire, such as a dress, skirt or pants with a blouse, paired with flats so you can walk comfortably!

Ole Miss is still doing skits this year, but they know that they will be eliminated for next year. Tennessee also eliminated skits this year.
I know that at Auburn there was a battle to try to limit skits to 15 minutes the past few years, but some chapters kept theirs much longer "so they wouldn't have to talk to the girls very long" . I was not in the room when that statement was made, but I have a very good source that was....
The result: Sisterhood Round.

I saw a skit video yesterday from a sorority (don't remember the school) where the girls were wearing super short cut-offs, shirts tied up to expose their entire stomach and a little bit of provocative dancing thrown in. Regardless of that, I understood what the point of some of the skit was but it still involved "making fun" of other sisters in a way. For instance, one girl would "mess up" and the others would make comments about how she never gets it right, why doesn't she just practice more, etc. In the end, they did it right which was part of the skit and was fun but I don't know...
For a recruitment event I thought that overall it was a bit much. If videos like that is what Panhellenic is experiencing more and more, I don't blame them for wanting to change it. I've seen so many videos that aren't like that though, and they're so cute! I guess its a catch 22.

As a membership volunteer for my GLO for the past 10 years, I have visited at least 30 different campuses during recruitment (and as a national officer visitor, I often got to see 2-5 other NPC chapter's skits on each visit.) Doesn't matter if the campus total is 30 or 300...too much time was spent practicing for skit compared to preference round, too much money was spent on costumes, too many inside jokes for the most part. I can count on the fingers of one hand the skits for any NPC groups that I witnessed that had a balance of showcasing chapter involvement, values, and sisterhood (compared to booty-shaking dances and skimpy costumes).
Yes, I am old. But good taste does not have an expiration date.

I've always felt the videos were problematic as well. Too many inside jokes, situations, etc...there is no voice over - just music with the members clapping, hooting and hollering. What does any of that mean? What's anchor weekend??? What's any of it? The audience isn't "in" on any of it. And just what are all those groups at UGA who built additions with stages going to do with that room????? Don't get me wrong. i'd like to see no skits and a short 5 minutes video...and learn how to talk to someone!!!!!!

Thanks for the info --
I think skits are supposed to be no longer than 15 minutes at Bama too -- wondering if not adhering to this time is.was a fineable offense? I guess it won't matter now.
I've heard of skits that were skating the brink of less-than-tasteful, but I had no idea this was widespread.

Thinking about some skits I've seen over the years...so many of the most popular groups had skits that were almost totally composed of inside jokes and the ones that weren't weren't particularly funny. And it finally hit me that these wildly popular groups could have put anything up on that stage-someone lecturing about rare chemicals or the fungi of Zambezi and the PNMs would've still been hanging on the edge of their seats, pretending to understand everything and laughing frantically.

My third, and last, annual post!
Funny how it feels like we just moved her into the dorm the day before recruitment and now she is in the midst of her last recruitment. Not sure where that time went.
I will reiterate my advice to all the PMN dads, this week can be a roller coaster. I still don't understand the process, nor do I think I need to! Encourage your daughters to be themselves and keep an open mind. Come Friday morning it somehow seems to all work out.
Most importantly, keep the corkscrew and ice and tonic handy to keep Mom hydrated. It worked for me!

Agree on seeing multiple groups skits at a prominent SEC school. Was not overly impressed with any of them. Some bordered on inappropriate, some were just very loud singing, some had inside jokes. A lot of time that could have been spent on getting to know the PNM's.

Oh Dad. Hard to believe your girl is a senior. Best wishes to her as she finishes up her undergrad and goes on to much happiness and success.

Thank you so much.
I can honestly say from the choice of school, to recruitment, to her friends she has surrounded herself with, to her major, she has made terrific choices. I see the pictures of her during this recruitment and she is having so much fun with the young ladies with whom she has shared the last four years.
Good luck to all the PMNs and their parents.

I belong to a Facebook group that's mainly professional makeup artists. The group has been WTF-ing over an automatic brush cleaner that is being marketed by women in lingerie and wearing t-shirts that say sexy CEO. Someone very wisely pointed out that women will buy the product because they'll think they can look like the women advertising it. Same here, I guess.
I could say more, but I'll just say please tell me those all white outfits were for bid day and not for ritual.
